This Thread is about how a person who had a stroke in May 2021 is experiencing life AFTER the stroke. My Ups and Downs.

Has anyone had radiation treatment in Australia over the last couple of years please?

Husband has just been given the costing and it doesn't make any sense.

Medicare pays $20,000

If you have to have radiation treatment you are expected to pay a further $620,00 a week for five weeks.

Even if you are on a Part Pension or Pension!

My new glasses!   Went for mauve frames never had them before, usually the metal frame they are so comfortable.

Looking forward to having a single lens once again.    But these frames are manufactured in Sydney and I thought they were all in lock down?    I am told they will be arriving in Perth in 10 days!

They are very attractive Celia.

Pretty Mauve!

A South Perth pub’s offer to reward COVID-vaccinated patrons with a free beer has the “full support” of Premier Mark McGowan, despite concerns it encourages irresponsible drinking.

The Windsor Hotel has been spruiking its “Just Vaccinated” campaign on social media for the past two weeks, offering customers an Ogdens beer on the house on the day of their jab.

“Show us proof you’ve had your vaccine on the day and the beer's on us,” the pub told punters.

“Let's do the right thing and keep not only Perth but the world safe.”

Manager Max Fox-Andrews said it was the venue’s way of trying to help WA “rise above the pandemic”.

Mr McGowan said he would head to the iconic South Perth venue after receiving his second jab.

“This promotion sounds like a good natured effort to encourage Western Australians to get vaccinated,” he said.

“Any reasonable effort to encourage Western Australians to roll up their sleeves and get the jab is of course a good thing.

“If the Windsor Hotel is offering vaccinated patrons a pint for doing the right thing then good on them and they have my full support.”

But the promotion attracted the attention of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries which contacted the heritage-listed pub to ask it to consider whether “this practice encourages the irresponsible consumption of liquor or portray the consumption of liquor in an inappropriate way”.

It follows a similar promotion by Melbourne’s Prince Alfred Hotel.

Earlier this month the pub was told by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to pull its campaign due to regulations which banned offers of alcohol as incentives to get vaccinated.

While it is legal to offer rewards to people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID, the TGA website states that these offers must comply with certain conditions “such as not offering alcohol, tobacco or registered medicines”.

However after the intervention of the Prime Minister who threw his support behind the initiative, the Melbourne promotion was allowed to continue earlier this month.

“This is a national interest vaccine program and we will be making some changes to ensure that these good-hearted, good-natured initiatives (can continue),” Scott Morrison said at the time.

He said while those rules were there for important reasons — “so drug companies can't offer drugs and cigarettes to people to buy their prescription drugs”, the national interest right now was to get vaccinated.

“So to the PA (Prince Alfred) down there in Melbourne, good on you … cheers to the PA,” he said on July 9.

Mr Fox-Andrews yesterday said The Windsor’s promotion had been inspired by the Melbourne pub.

“That’s where the idea came from. We saw them doing it and thought it was a great way to do our bit,” he said.

“We're trying to do the right thing during what I would call these unprecedented times and also following the lead of Scott Morrison.”

He denied the promotion was encouraging the misuse of alcohol, saying it was doing more good than damage.

“We’re promoting the vaccine by encouraging more people to get it,” he said.

“But we’re also not saying you have to get the vaccine. We’re just saying if you do get it, come here and get a free beer.”

The publican admitted the management team had received mix responses from the public since announcing the campaign, but that any negative feedback had come from anti-vaxxers.

“So many think it’s great. We’ve had people come in with smiles after their jab, it’s been really positive for the most part,” Mr Fox-Andrews said.

Great idea but nobody is wearing a mask.  If Scomo doesn't get us (NSW) more Pfizer soon, the whole country will suffer.

[hope I have copied and pasted ok this morning I have not had any help]

Yes you did well Celia

Well thanks Plan B.  I even saw my errors and corrected them sorry about any that I missed out!

I did receive a reply from the Gov here in WA that I can get the Pfizer but they don't have a clue when!

Elder son that has been ill had a reaction for the AstraZenica so he cannot have anymore but the Pfizer.

His brother already   [in Sydney] has had both the two shots already as he is diabetic one.

Oh what a couple of years this family has had with illness.

Plan B I tried to write this morning before my Stoke medication and my Thyroxine which I have taken for over 30 years now, and try as I may I could not get the writing correct so I deleted it all and left it and came back later.

It is so right to tell parents, that both Mums and DADS!!  the importance of giving their child a good breakfast before they go to school.  The difference is amazing me to notice the before food and after it the brain works so much better.

I can relate to being ill Celia --

Is your son a class one or two diabetic Celia

One Diabetic PlanB.

However, for two years the doctors treated him as Type Two and as a 6.4" male he went down to 70gs, this is in Sydney where he lives.  I visited him and told him to change his doctor asap.

What age was he diagnosed Celia

You mean the doctor in Sydney?

I don't know I didn't ask I doubt it very much, but this is not the first time I have heart of this situation.

A friend of mine had a 12 year old son, she returned to the UK as her mother was dying and took her son with her to the hospital.     He collapsed!

Of course they treated him to tell her that the boy was diabetic One.

He had been in a Children's Hospital here in Perth and they could not find anything wrong with him!

She was livid. So much stress for her with both her mother and son.

Even my own case the other week I was made to wait a week for the MRI scane I would have thought the Doctor would have made it an urgent scan if he thought I was having a Stroke!  But he didn't.

I meant what age was your son when he was diagnosed with diabetic one

I know what you mean with some of these Drs - some are downright hopeless

He had to have been around turning forty I think, cannot be sure.

Here is the movies that Patria Neal worked on some years back.

Talking of Strokes, I knew Princess Margaret did have one, but not that she had a few of them sadly.

I read that Princess Margaret loved the cigarettes, so that

could have been a big problem for her healthwise.

Princess Marg loved lots of things -- Booze/Cigs/men/ parties

Like her father George VI she lost  a lot of her lungs due to smoking, I think the same was said for her grandfather George V.

I think this portrait is spoilt with the teeth showing, if he had not shown so much teeth it would have been much nicer as he has manage to capture the sparkle in her majoesty's eyes.

Dame Sarah Gilbert (pictured), co-architect of the AstraZeneca vaccine, has said that mixed messages has hindered the rollout of vaccines across Australia

The vaccine was set to be the backbone of the rollout of Covid jabs in Australia but faith in the jab was tarnished by medical advice recommending against its use in people aged under 60 due to the extremely rare risk of blood clotting.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has more recently urged any adult over the age of 18 to get it after consulting a GP.

Extraordinary show of strength as cops swarm Sydney's CBD in their hundreds amid fears anti-lockdown protestors will hit the streets again

A massive police operation is underway in Sydney in anticipation of a second weekend of anti-lockdown rallies in Sydney's CBD.

I would not mind one now!

Foodie shares her simple recipe for a Macca's apple pie at home - and she promises it's as good as the real thing

A home cook from New South Wales has shared her simple recipe for recreating McDonald's apple pies from home, and she promises they taste exactly like the real deal.

I make those all the time easy as -- I buy the puff pastry

Sounds yummy.

I used to years go but the puff pastry is fattening for me, mind you since I have lost a lot of weight perhaps I should start to eat them.  I love cooked apple I use Woolies tined apple so I don't have to peel them!

Love anything with apple and cream, it is the only dairy that I can take a little of!

I always use the Granny Smith apples --in season

These are Grannies too PlanB, they are partly cooked but are firm, they are designed this way for putting into a apple pie.

Reminds me years ago when we were living in Yorkshire UK, there were no British cooking apples available in the supermarket and shock horror the few women that were looking for them didn't know what to do! I suggested that they get brave and try the Australian Cooking apple sitting in front of them!   They are very nice I said they are Australian eating apples, so they took some.  I often wonder if they preferred them to what they had been used to.  The Brambley is an English cooking apple but I don't like it because it goes so mushier

Must go and cook breakfast now it is 8am!  I need to also put a casserole in the slow cooker before lunch!!  Hope my typing is ok I am not checking it. sigh.

Celia,

I don't know how you are faring with getting the Pfizer. If you lived where I live you would have no hope of getting it. Just want to say, in case you can't get it, that my cousin in the UK had 3 strokes but received her 2 doses of AstraZenica without any problems. Her partner also had no problems in spite of the fact he has been on Warfarin for years for blood clotting. They are both in their 70's.

Hi Ny19 I am living in Perth;  my husband was told by the specialist to make an application for that vaccine to the WA Health authorities and he has and I received the OK from them, but they have used it all for others as far as we know, I am on a list of people in WA that have done the same.  We cannot just turn up and get it, we have to make an application.

My cousin in the UK has had it, my son had the AstraZenica and had a reaction so he has been told not to have the second dose.  My younger son in Sydney has had both of the Pfizer and is ok.

Thank you for your interest Ny19.
