Have you got a fear of parallelophobia (parallel parking)?
Millions of motorists are suffering from 'parallelophobia' - a fear of parallel parking, according to a UK study.
Almost a third of drivers, admit the prospect of trying to manoeuvre their car into a parallel space drives them to distraction, and 34 per cent confessed they think it's the hardest parking technique.
It seems like a simple task, but reverse parallel parking intimidates many Australian drivers too. If you are afflicted with parallelophobia, here are the no-fail steps to take the stress out of parallel parking:
1. Stop alongside the vehicle sitting ahead of the space you want to park in (the rear of the car beside you should be visible from the centre of you left-hand rear window)
2. While stopped, swing your car's steering wheel full lock towards the curb
3. Slowly start reversing until your car is at a 45 degree angle - you will know because you will be able to see the car behind you in your back right window
4. Straighten your steering wheel, then reverse slowly until your outside tyre is directly behind the car in front's outside wheel.
5. Stop and swing the steering wheel full lock in the opposite direction to bring the nose of your car into the space.
6. Once your car is straight in the space, straighten your wheel and adjust you car so it is in the middle of the park
This may sound complex, but we all had to do it in a driving test so why not now? Experts say that if you have a space large enough, this method is full-proof. Its a procedure not expertise thats why computers can do it in cars with parking assist.
Do you have your own reverse parallel parking tip?
My tip is, do not let stupid people direct you
