Have you ever heard of Michael McCormack?

Australia has found a new deputy prime minister in Veterans Affairs Minister Michael McCormack after he was elected as the new leader of the Nationals.

McCormack replaces Barnaby Joyce, who stepped down amid a string of scandals involving an affair with a former staffer, property rental concerns and sexual misconduct claims.

Have you ever heard about Michael McCormack and do you think he will do a better job than Barnaby?

Never heard of him. I doubt if he will do as good a job as Barnaby in representing the needs of Rural and Regional Australians. Barnaby gave his people a voice they badly needed.

Turnbull is obviously not a good people manager if he couldnt, modify his destructive behaviour, and at the same time get the best out of Barnaby.

Barnaby is a beer swilling, obnoxious moron and I don't think he represented anyone but himself. It was all about him and his power trip. Just look at the state of the Murray/Darling and water going to his National buddies in Northern NSW. He couldn't give a toss for the rural people down the river. If he thought so much of his electorate he would have told them all about the situation before the by election and let the people judge him but no it was all hush, hush so he could be a hero in his own mind. He deserved all the media attention he got and doesn't deserve to be in parliament at all. At least Michael McCormick comes across as half decent.

Seadove, in your glowing review of McCormack (comes accross as half decent) you failed to mention that he is a seat warmer.

I think we have too many politicians,

I would like to see a meritocracy.  The best and most experienced people in Health, Housing, Transport, Education etc.  Indeed, pollies pay huge amounts of the electorates' taxes to pay advisers, the advice of whom is generally relegated  to ....

Certainly we need a few pollies, but where their particular "qualities" can do little damage.

An example of a complete disaster was the new RAH recently built in Adelaide.  The politicians lauded as an amazing achievement they had brought to their state.

One mess after another ... all at tax-payers' expense.  Just a few to mention .... originally the doorways were too narrow to permit movement of hospital beds in and out of wards (beggars belief!!) there isn't enough room to store patient records from the old RAH, and a courier has to run back and forth daily, there is inadqduate room for emergency arrivals and patients have to remain inside ambulances, robots "run" a number of practical programs, such as deliverying food, with patients finding themselves with a full day's menu at breakfast.... the list goes on and on ...  Then there are the loud complaints of the doctors themselves.

And the pollies are grandstanding ... which they do so well.

The previous RAH went to the lowest tender ... and began disintigrating.  When one sees private hospitals and other works lasting many, many years, one has to ask the obvious questions.

"Better save some of that brew  for Barnaby guys, I don't think he'll last out the night. McCormack is rearing  to  take  his place.

Yep, move over Barney, McCormack is going to be your replacement."

I do know who Michael McCormack is and think he's an excellent choice. He is very well mannered..presentable and a quiet achiever..and also loves horses..I know this because I met him at the 2016 Melbourne Cup and was very impressed then..and still am..

"He is very well mannered..presentable and a quiet achiever..and also loves horses"

So that's all it takes eh? A good suit and like horses!

I never trust a man who doesn't like horses..children or ice cream :)

Crazy old bat meets a pollie who smiles and shakes her hand and she assumes he's a nice guy

Peadophiles love horses and children too and many have ventured into politics

Brocky (aka Raphael) loves horses, hmmm????

the only "crazy" here is

Rumor is McCormack and Bridget have a child out of wedlock

I'm just curious, maybe someone on YLC can give me the answer. . Why do these ministers wear red ties.? I noticed in the Sunday paper Mr. Turnbull and Mr. Trump both were wearing red ties.

Hi HOLA..

Red is called the "power tie"..the story goes..when you want to make an impression as a leader..wear red..

It's the favourite colour of politicians and CEOs...

Little more to the red tie than being a "power" thing.  I wont go into the meaning of the colour there's a lot of call to action signage in red. We know that Trump is always wearing a red tie. If Turnbull wants to be seen back home to be on equal footing he must also wear a red tie, not only as an expression of commonality, but as an expression of equality in each countries needs.

Why so glum, chum.

Go on tell us more about the "red tie"  any links to reds  under the beds??

And why do I have to change my red signs to  another colour?

From time to time I have had a thought enter into my mind. I havent given it a great deal of consideration but nonetheless it has entered my mind occasionally.. Reagan if I can ask you a question? I dont expect an intelligent response.. . Why do you bother? Do you have no life? Why not try to do something positive? Surely insulting us oldies cannot be that rewarding??

Thank goodness the beetrooter is gone!

jackie, he hasnt gone anywhere. He is sitting up in the naughty corner with Tony Abbott.

Thanks Thea - It's just that the other side wear Blue ties. Just wondering.

Good on you Ray, he's my choice too. How about some help for choosing my lotto numbers!

Kevin can you please make your posts easier to read with fewer SHOUTY words, fewer innapropriate abbreviations and more appropraite punctuation. I am sure there may be more who might agree with your point of view if only they could 'see' it!

Yes, Kevin, I do agree with KSS-- your posts are very difficult to read

Make that three Kevin, but I'm wondering if you are actually writing them the way we are seeing them, or is it some sort of glitch?

This site is glitchy for me too if I use Chrome, not like your posts, but still glitchy, sort of jumping around a bit when I try to type.  Thanks to a comment from another poster on here (sorry can't remember who that was) I tried Firefox and it works so much better.

Michael McCormack,  does have a better appearance BUT he has already made some very bad comments and having heard him on a few occasions I do not like him.

Then I do not care for any in the Nats or the Libs at this time

I have heard of him but don't know much about him, time will tell.  That picture of the two leaders with their deputies is interesting though.

I read somewhere that before Malcolm left the country in Mathias Cormann's hands (instead of Barnaby, for obvious reasons) Julie Bishop offered to postpone her own overseas trip to take on the role, but was told she was more important elsewhere - yeah right.

And obviously the Nats Deputy Leader isn't considered a reasonable replacement for the top job either, or maybe she just wasn't interested - funny that.

Maybe they should get some red ties.

Yes the picture is interesting ...imagine both female ???

Is it politically correct to say females ???

I think Mathias did a very good jobImage result for smiley thumbs up

Speaking of ties, they can say quite a lot  --- ever noticed M Turnbull sometimes wears an orange coloured tie,  and Abbott always wore a blue tie?   Well if you look at the colour wheel  -- you will notice that the ORANGE is directly opposite the blue and Turnbull mostly wears the Orange when he is going against Abbott.

The wearing of the read one would have been a statement that he  'agreed' with Trump

Good man McCormack, may you sail well.

Some people have very little to make judgements on!  Give McCormack a go - I thought it the "Aussie" way.   As for Barnaby  - leave him alone now.  He's paid a price for his infidelity and after all how many of our leaders have done the same and worse. Shorten, Burke (do you want me to go on?)  But -  when it is all said and done  IT IS A PERSONAL MATTER  and think of his family.

Wow. Thanks for that PlanB. My only ''acquaintance'' with him was when he became Defence Personnel Minister for about 8 weeks (I think!). I complained to my local MP that a letter sent by a relative in very dire circumstances was not even replied to and the response was that it was because of a change in the Ministry. Dan Tehan moved on and McCormack took over. Well, I guess anyone waiting for a response from the Defence Personnel Minister should give up now!

Yes OGR,  he is not a very caring person at all and has NO time for the country or the working person --   He does like to sprook on though

I know many disagree, but I think the problem in our government today is overpayment - in all it's forms. The job of politician is just too appealing to those with massive egos and uncontrolled greed! We are NOT getting quality politicians. We are getting inept money-grubbers with no morals or integrity, no understanding of life in the real world, and no genuine desire to promote the national good. They are pandying to their mates, arranging policy to benefit selected lobby groups and power-centres, and lining their pockets and partying while neglecting the job they were elected to do.

Yes GardenGirl, Barnaby's circumstances are a private matter, and for his family's sake, he should be left alone now. But the issue is much, much bigger than just one man, or even the group we know engaged in this kind of conduct. The issue is that Australia needs strong leaders with morals, ethics, and integrity, competence, and genuine desire to promote the public good. We will NEVER have that while the pay and benefits are so appealing.

I went through the records of a number of politicians, from local level all the way up to Federal, and the number who have gone into politics after FAILING in business is frightening. One, who became Minister for Small Business in NSW, went to his brother for funding to run for office because he had gone broke in SIX businesses and had ''given up trying''. He became the Minister!

I ran businesses for a time and in EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE, those who thought they were deserving of high salaries were USELESS. Those who presented as humble and wanting to learn and interested in the job rather than the salary proved top notch. The very best were those with neither experience nor training, and that was in a highly skilled job. They learned on the job and they learned quickly because they wanted the opportunity. The highly skilled, self-important "Im worth $$$$$$$$ because of all my qualifications and experience'' came to bludge, cheat, cause upset among other staff members, or try to change the way we did things (despite our way being the secret of our success).

I think we've conclusively proved the theory ''pay peanuts and get monkeys'' wrong. As the pay has gone up and up and up, the quality of leaders has gone down and down and down. What we have now is immoral, corrupt, greedy, inept fools who would be making us the laughing stock of the world were it not for the fact that many other nations have the same problem.

OGR,  I agree fully with everything you said -- re the Politicians and their morals and thats why Barnaby's private life IS of interest as it shows just where his moral compass is and that he cares only for HIMSELF, and not one hoot about the Country OR its voters.

So many are career politicians and have gone straight from school to UNI -- and it was FREE at that time too --then straight into politics.   We pay huge salaries and we still have egotistical idiots -- (I didn't want to insult the monkeys)

I equate it with going to a Doctor -- and I would -- if I could -- choose a Dr that had suffered.

I also agree with you re the employees and their attitudes and have heard this so often b4,  so many want to start at the top -- rather than the bottom and work their way UP -- and LEARN.

Oh boy, here we go again. Give the guy a break!
