Have you ever been tempted?

Have you ever been tempted by those ads in the newspaper, those about the people who will come to your home, while you are on holidays? They'll walk/feed your pets, take in the mail, adjust the position of your blinds? Don't be fooled - your pet will know the difference. My neighbours have been on holidays for the last fortnight - they have two dogs. Every morning, about 6am/daylight, the dogs start up. One is a barker, the other one howls! The "carer" comes about 4pm each day - at least that is a bit of a relief. Meanwhile, I'm out there, trying to shut them up! I have always put my dog into board if I need to be away. Have done for the last 20 years - just wish my neighbours had done the same. I'm losing sleep every day.

I always got one of the family to mind my dogs --when I had them--but even though they loved them dearly--and were well looked after--the dogs were still sooooo glad to see me when I got back. I am afraid I wouldn't be letting a stranger come into my home to adjust the blinds etc.

Although I love animals a lot --I don't have any now as I may die b4 them--I couldn't afford the vet bills--and I also don't want to be tied down and if you have animals you HAVE to commit to them for all their lives, which could be 17 years

Hello Bev and Plan!

We don't have a problem with dogs presently.

I guess that as neighbors change so does the dog population and amount of care from the owners.

Barking all day must drive you nuts.

Our problem is with cats.

Out every night pissing and pooping on our doorstep and front garden.

Is the night curfew working?

Does any one police it?

Dunno.

Best wishes.

Peter J.

Yes very strange that Dogs have to be registered but cats don't. It used to drive me mad as well and also all the native birds and animals that the cats killed as well--I think many of them must have got rid of their cats now as I don't seem top have that trouble now I hope it stays that way.

hi bevg,i sympathise with you about the barking dogs, there is nothing worse even when people are home and let their dogs bark all the time, surely they hear them but do nothing,

i wouldn't trust anyone in my house except for my friend while i'm away,we have each others keys and if either us are away and a bill comes in we pay it then when the other comes home we pay them back and we always know the pets will be safe and also not annoy the neighbours,

if this happens everytime your neighbours are away just contact the council,

WOW! What is the matter with you Bev.

I have been Petsitting /House sitting and never had a problem or a complaint, quite the opposite.

Dont lump everyone in the same basket as ther are lots os people out there, who are genuine.

I have had cats and dogs sleep with me as they were fretting for the first night.

After that with intensive bonding, they were fine. No problem at all.

My owners would be horrified to read your dribble. Wake up and realise that there are other sides to every story.

Charlee.

Charlee, I am sure Bev did not mean any offense towards you--nor did I, just that you have to be so very careful these days, I am sure you sound like a pretty special person.

charlee, bev wasn't being vindictive she was just stating a fact and if i had her neighbours dogs barking and carrying while they are away on their hols i wouldn't be too happy either,

some dogs are a bloody nuisance, not all are good little doggies,

Maybe I should have pointed out that these aren't house/pet sitters I was talking about, but those who visit once a day for about an hour. There probably wouldn't be any problem if the poeple were in the house with the dogs the whole time, but when their only companionship is for such a short time each day, that's when the dogs get upset.
