Hard stuff

I see in the press that one of the Rudd governments first pieces of legislation of hiking up the tax on alcopops has had no effect in curbing teenage binge drinking with a 10% increase in sales of hard liquor.

I hope they plan the much publicised Emissions Trading System a bit better than this knee-jerk reaction that only accomplished kids moving onto the 'top-shelf'

Of couse it won't they don't care what they spend--and as long as they get what they want when they want--they all live for the moment with NO thought for the next. In the mean time the manority have to suffer the extra cost--once again the minority rules--

Anyone watching the "Y generation" on SBS--and "The Nest"

Also what with all the peiceings etc--they seem to go for these days--what are other opinions on these ?

I am discusted with MOST of the young ones these days--

Also what with all the piercings etc--they seem to go for these days--what are other opinions on these ?

Yes I agree PlanB. I cant understand kids today.

When I was forced to do a Job Search course with the imbeciles at Job Network there was this young fellow in his early twenties (and old enough to know better) who had facial piercings in his lips, nose, eyebrows, and even had his ear lobes enlarged to take a metal disc about the size of a dollar coin. He was covered in tattoos.

When one of the staff asked what his latest tattoo meant he said "I dont know it just looked nice". His hair was dyed pitch black and cut/combed over one side of his face down to his chin? Can you imagine what prospective employers thought when this creature sat opposite them at an interview? He looked like a mobile comic book!

Yes times have sure changed--I would NOT employ them looking the way they do--and then there are the ones--that wear there pants down round their bottom--and look like they have s*&^ them---I hate to think what these Tatts ect will look like in years to come--they look bad at any age---plus they have NO manners at all--

there pants down round their bottom--and look like they have s*&^ them

Oh well said PlanB. LOL -- (must get those smilies working)

I think as we grew up we all went through phases and I guess at times our parents couldn't understand us, however today's youth seem totally foreign and as much as I resist dragging politics into any discussion (LOL) when a pollie says "its all for the long term" I think yeah, for today's youth who dont give a damn about anything, so why should I?

Yes I am glad I won't be here when these horrors are ruling the place --it will be like "Mad Max"--getting that way now--what will all the crime etc--not being able to leave your belongings--/car/--what ever unless it is stollen--or wrecked--it all boils down to there not being any disapline--in the home or anywhere else--all the do gooders--and allowing the teens to leave home if they are spoken to in a rough way or get a slap if they break the house rules--kids respect a line they are unable to cross (in the long run)--and turn out far better.

reckon it all boils down to a No Consequences attitude and it starts very early,

they mustnt be criticised for not doing well at school because it will damage their psyche

and self esteem,so if they cant cope noone says anything they just struggle until leaving school

then they realise noone is going to get on their backs so what the hell - do what you like

Yes thats just the way it is--they don't compare with the poor souls that went through dreadful times during the war--prision camps etc etc etc etc etc--they would then have something to whinge about--but do you see those poor devils--doing such things--NO--these kids don't know their born--they have everything they wanted and when they can't get it--(and they won't work to get it) they just take it. I have had enough of the soft way the law deals with them.

its sad really because they never seem to be happy, the only time they seem to have any life in them

is when they have had a hit of their favourite pick-me-up,be it drugs or alcohol. They dont wake up

and wonder what the day will bring -what adventure, just grimace at daylight and stay there until

time to party. There are no lines drawn in the sand ,no barriers,so they just drift aimlessly. I know

not all are like this but it seems to be a great many of them.

they mustn't be criticised for not doing well at school

I agree. I think the Education Dept is one large cause behind this problem and too much emphasis is put of the 'phsyc' of kids. Correct me if I am wrong but when I was at school our tests/exams were graded by points then went to the letter (P = pass etc) because they were afraid kids would compare points and some would feel 'inferior'. What rubbish!

My first wife's kids created pandemonium when they came home from school and said "teacher says if I dont want to do something I have the right to say NO" -- when quite possibly the teacher could have been talking about sex.

Remember the laughable situation when Easter or Xmas celebrations were cancelled in a childcare place because there were other non-christian kiddies present? What twaddle! It might have been a learning experience for them?

This problem relates back to paper shufflers in offices with fancy sounding titles, trying to out-do each other while attempting to justify their enormous salaries, with nothing better to do than dream up stupid ideas for us to adopt. I believe they are called Advisers or Consultants -- take a look at Channel 2's Hollowmen for proof.

I am only an amateur psychologist, but I suspect that there is a very good reason why we are seeing kids with piercings, tatts, coloured hair, pants around the bum etc and it is simply low self esteem......they are desperately looking for some mechanism to be NOTICED. There is no chance of us seeing a PM at some time in the future with a pierced eyebrow and jeans showing generous bum-crack.

Take a look at the OTHER kids.....even in Coles & Woolies (whom I hate), our high schools, universities etc......it is THERE you will see our leaders of tomorrow. There are plenty of kids out there studying or working with a great work ethic etc.....even though they may not be in the majority. I quite agree that a large portion of our younger generation are "off the rails", but they are just shooting themselves in the foot. Unless they can turn their life around, they are condemning themselves to a life of poverty and menial jobs. I believe that our society is like unhomogenised milk......the cream rises to the top.

Yes very true--and I also agree that they have LOW self esteem--and are trying to get attention--but they get the wrong type--
