GROCERY WATCH (the prices rise)

Having checked out the much publicised Grocery Choice website, my only comment is "what a joke". The site will be updated once a month, so the one thing you can be assured of is that we will know how much MORE our groceries are costing us each month. It certainly isn't going to tell us where to shop for the best value. There is no indication of inidivudal item costs or specifics on quantities/type of meat and seafood. Thirteen million dollars wasted, and what are the ongoing costs for maintaining this rubbish. Mr. Rudd is continually stating that Labour are doing things that the opposition never did or thought of doing during their 12 years in power- he maybe right, but I hope he will also acknowledge that he is using the funds raised by the previous government to squander on these ridiculous schemes.

The money that has been spent, could have given each of us pensioners a dollar a week. Let me see what I could buy for a dollar. Thinking - thinking - thinking. Got it! Two tomatoes! Last time I paid 40cents for each one.

Yes what a darn wate of money--better to keep a watch on the specials !

Its the same story as with fuel......watching the prices wont bring them down.

The following is the best article I've seen on the Govt grocery watch website.

"After promising so much before the election, the Rudd Government delivered so little. And it was delivered in a form that's downright contemptuous of shoppers and an example of the nanny state stretched too far.

Apart from the blindingly obvious conclusion that competition brings down prices and a review aimed at trying to increase entry for foreign grocery chains, GroceryChoice is as sad, empty and useless as an old shopping trolley dumped in a stormwater drain. It's actually worse than that because the same shoppers who are outraged at the gimcrack gimmickry of a website that doesn't tell you real prices for individual items on the day you shop and where you shop, have to pay taxes to fund the scheme. They'd be better off if the money spent on the website were returned to them for spending on groceries. "

It's worth reading the entire article at this link:

The Grocery Watch debacle>

It just goes to show us how really far removed from every day reality our politicians are. Does it matter who we vote in to office, once there, they conveniently forget what they promised us prior to the election?

After listening to Chris Bowen on the radio stumbling around trying to defend the website, I'll make a prediction.

He implied to the radio announcer that maybe some refining could be done.

Translated:

After listening to the complaints, they'll spend more taxpayers money, on expanding the w'site to include a little more detail.

Thanks for sharing the article with us koko, excellent and right on the money. You are quire right, they will now spend more of the taxpayers money on "refining" this web site. It's like building a billy cart out of scrap material, when what we really wanted was a motor car. Maybe if we all wish hard enough, Mr. Rudd will get lost in the smog in Beijing, never to be heard of again.

WOW......maybe thats what happened to Harold Holt........perhaps enough people wished.....?

Ive written to Mr Rudd asking him to scrap the grocery watch and give all pensioners a ROLEX.

Oh westozzy, did you have to ask for the Rolex, now we will have another enquiry into the feasability or your suggestion and probably a website telling us where we can buy one at a reasonable cost - when we already know we can go to Hong Kong and get a reasonable fascimile of a Rolex. :-))

Oh no, not a replica, a real one, in the long run it will be cheaper than the website. Mind you is was a flippant request as you probably feel the same as I, when you reach our age time is what we want to enjoy daily not to look at on your wrist. .................................................On reflection we could sell them that would pay for a few groceries

Better still..what about a pair of binoculars!!!LOL

Or good quality chocolate (I am having a bad day need chocolate) LOL

Binoculars Koko would be a good logo (almost poetic) for the grocery watch,if used properly they might bring the prices closer to out budget and if you reverse them the politians will be far far away but sadly never far enough.
