Government wants answers over controversial Four Corners episode

The Federal Government’s Communications Minister Paul Fletcher tweeted a letter that he sent to ABC chair Ita Buttrose asking for answers about the controversial Four Corners episode ‘Inside the Canberra Bubble’.

The episode investigated allegation of relationships between ministers Alan Tudge and Christian Porter and their staffers and questioned the way female staffers were treated by the Coalition.

Fletcher’s letter to Buttrose asks why the personal lives of politicians was considered newsworthy for this episode of the popular current affairs program.

Read the letter in full below.

Did you watch the Four Corners episode in question? Do you think the ministers were fair game? Should Australian politicians be held to higher standards of behaviour?

Shame on you Paul Fletcher.  The very absence of significant numbers of female pollies in the LNP reflects the male dominated culture in your party.  No wonder you all regard females in politics as fair game in the Canberra bubble.  Grow up, get used to public scrutiny - there's going to be a lot more in the future.

The truth hurts! Why should they be above scrutiny? It's about time these pollies were accountable for their actions. The LNP Men's Club of the Canberra Bubble.

When the nation's Attorney General and another senior LNPer espouse family values and put themselves in positions of potential blackmail by foreign agents, it is in the public interest!  Let alone treatment of women in their parties. ..Such a letter shows that this epsiode has them rattled and may even be a catalyst for change.

Well done ABC and Ita!

I agree with the comments so far. Of course the behaviour of senior politicians is newsworthy, and  course the public has a right to know!

"why the personal lives of politicians was considered newsworthy " ? Because the personal conduct  and behaviour of politicians  living off tax payer revenue is of Public Interest.  How good is that, Communications Minister Paul Fletcher?

Politicians work for us, they would do well to remember that.  They are supposed to represent us in the parliament.  If what I have seen is representative of the Australian population as a whole, we are doomed.  But I don't believe this is so! They just need to get back in touch with the people who put them in power in the first place.

Thiis is just at attempt to divert attention from the actual activities of the politicians concerned by questioning the ABC's reporting of the facts.

It is also part of the LNP's witch hunt against the ABC aided and abetted by Murdoch Media.
