Good Movies

Pete mentioned "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

excellent movie. I recommend it to everyone. Retirees will especially identify with the characters and the storyline.

We went to see "The Butler" this afternoon

Robi - you'd love it.

Cameos from Jane Fonda, Robin Williams and a few others.

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was great actually happy to see it a second time when a friend asked me to go with her. Judi Dench was great as always.

In "The Butler" the depiction of the South in the 60s and earlier was brutally realistic, again a film worth seeing, bit like in "The Maid" you wonder how one person could feel they were superor to another as is depicted in both.

Next one I want to see is "The Opera Singer" looks good too.

I went to see "One Chance" today with my film group. Such a beautiful movie along similar lines to Billy Elliot but about opera singing rather than dancing. Very sensitive and beautifully acted. Enhanced by the fact that it's based on a true story. Most in the group gave it 4 or 5 out of 5 and we're a fussy bunch of markers. I highly recommend it for those who like an emotional roller coaster feel good movie.

LOL I didn't go to the movies before 4.48am. 'Today' should have been 'yesterday'.

Generally speaking, we don't like watching movies more than once, but we watch the Bucket List & the Student Prince every few months.

I guess a lot of you younger ones missed out on the hey day with movies, The saturday arvo matinees packed with screaming kids, yelling advice to the cowboy hero, the pre war 'Our Gang" films with Fatty Arbuckle and Jackie Cooper then later  "The Dead End Kids'  then came the war, never the same after, although we used to take our children to an afternoon show, but was very subdued to those matinee screams.

the matinees were great SETH,    did you sit in the back row and cuddle, lol lol,   we used to go to a theatre in KENTISH TOWN [ remember that PETE[     great fun,      pity the theatres didnt have them now,  keep the kids off the street,   but i suppose the MIGHTY DOLLAR beckons,  so its not worth there while,

Saw "Pride" recently. The most outstanding movie I have seen for a long time. It is set in the UK during the Thatcher years 1984/5. Our film group gave it a 5 out of 5. Emotionally beautiful movie and well acted. I highly recommend it.

My political heroine Margaret Thatcher won her first general election in 1979 in the same year that Meryl Streep, my favourite actress, won her first Oscar for Kramer verus Kramer.
They come together in "The Iron Lady" for which Meryl won an oscar.
I think Meryl must be the greatest living actress..

I like Joan Rivers instructions for her funeral "I want Meryl Streep crying and giving a speech in four different accents"

Hell I can't remember when I last watched a movie, all the way through anyway, at home or at a theatre.

It was a while ago and it was obviously none to memorable.

I am cursed or blessed depending on your viewpoint, with a one hour arse and cannot sit for too long. I get the fidgets and wander off to do something else.

Take it easy.

Every few years I watch ZULU and remember how to behave.

More VC 's won in any other battle and a true story.
