Good Gadgets found any lately?

We all find something new/different that we want to share with others so my latest one is a new weed sprayer.. Instead of syphoning up from    the bottom the outlet is at the bottom - no residue weed killer left as all is used - nothing wasted - and more importantly nothing to be tipped away - from UK and called Hozelock.

Any body else got improved gadgets recently?

not improved gadgets, just all my normal stuff,i dont think they can be improved much, mine work alright, although trying to squeeze stuff out of a tube is my nightmare, toothpaste is a killer, and the Colgate pump is damn expensive,I like gadgets!

billy

So do I, The pump I toothpaste is the easiest I found in the chemist it was cheaper than in the IGA the other day, the thingy to pop lids on jam jars are great and nut crackers are my favorites to get twist bottle tops off or to use on small tube caps. There is also a round  thing with pegs for socks and a hook so only have to reach up to the line once and only cost $2.00. and my electric law mower means I still have that pleasure as well, I love mowing.

i guess when part of us doesn't work so well,we adapt, my greatest grief is not being able to lift and hold my grandchildren when they were/ are small and the toddlers just don't understand. :(  but things could be a lot worse.

And a gadget to open sardine cans,I have to put mine on the floor with my foot on it to hold it while i pull the tab,it always spills everywhere but thats why i have Moggs the cat,he likes sardines too!

i do agree billyknows.  my cat also loves sardines and i wish they would change the can.  getting the last bit out of the corners of the can is not easy, and i don't like waste.

kika that damn pulltop, rollback lid is a nightmare,it is sharper than a razorblade too,and you are right, you have to contort and invert the can to get the bits out of the corners, there must be an easier way I think,Spam is the same, you get a tiny key with a slot in one end and it is so hard to do,especially when you go off track,go to be a better way.

I just LOVE gadgets

Have you looked at "Latest Buys" site amazing what gadgets people think up.

There is also a lot of junk vivity,a good gadget to me has to be so simplistic that you say to yourself "why diden't I think of that",they are the good ones, the best thing i have and use daily is a little 6" square piece of woven rubber mat,i can put any jar etc on it and it will not move one bit,but my main problem is not having any grip,my left hand can hold but no grip at all and my dominant right hand is getting weaker by the day from overuse, worse for me is putting on deoderant,if i try to use it on my right armpit then the can is upside down and no spray,i hate rollon's,but left is spray and right is rollon, bit odd but it works alright, just feels funny having one sticky armpit lol.

billy

Billy, the best deodorant is bicarbonate soda. You just lick your finger, dip into the bicarb and rub in armpit. It's brilliant, and cheap :)

No but I will Vivity, thanks

I had a look there and nothing that interests me --has to be very practical for me--not into game type things --I did buy a "Grabber" some time ago and I find that very good being a shorter person.  That mat sounds great Billy.

A gadget I love is a little plastic container on wheels to keep bottles of oil, vinegar and sauces in. They stop sticky oil etc getting all over the pantry shelf.

Nothing to buy here but some very good ideas

i also like clever, labour-saving gadgets.  one i often use is a simple device for easy  opening of tight bottles and jars (take note billy).  i also use this to tighten the hose connections at both ends so no water drips out.

and the following site has some amazing "green" type gadgets and inventions.  gives one hope for the future:

where is this gadget kika?the one to open jars etc!or are you talking about the rubber anti slip mat,I have tried lots of jar and bottle openers but i think they are designed for people with two hands,my left hand is useless,no grip at all, another of my big problems though is trying to butter bread, always ends up on the floor or against my body, had a bit of wood screwed onto a board but thats useless too.

There was an idea on U-Tube some time ago (not a gadget): how to separate a yolk from the white of egg. Simple: use an empty plastic bottle. Squeeze the bottle as to get rid of most of the air inside. Place the opening of the bottle on top of the yolk and bring the bottle to normal shape, that is" allow the air back into the bottle. You now have a jolk in the bottle and white of egg on the plate.

So there!

Henry,

I take it there is a reason to separate the egg yolk?

I'm a basic cook,if you know a good way to crack em i would be interested,i am useless one handed,i always end up with shell through it.

billy

Billy I saw this would that be of any help to you

Thanks PlanB,will go have a look now.

billy

Just had a look PlanB,looks interesting, wish i could look and hold it though before buying, but will maybe order one, only $28 delivered,I cook eggs every day so it would get a lot of use, just as long as the yoke come out unbroken,I like my eggs nice and soft,Thank You.

billy

Haha, how to crack an egg with one hand, sorry but it is not that easy folks, alright if you are a teenager, but my hands are stuffed from work,I have watched the chefs do it but they must have better eggs than mine, sometimes the shells a so thin you wonder how they dident break when you pick em up?

But the little egg cracker of PlanB's looks ok and will order one and see how it goes.

billy

I hope it is good for you Billy--shame it is a bit dear

I remember my Uncle using a cutter to take off the top of his boiled eggs, 2 rings with 2 finger holds placed over the top of the egg just looked up boiled egg cutter and saw one on offer on ebay.

Billy question how do you manage to put on your bottom bedsheet? When I had 1st one shoulder reconstructed then the other that was one of the hardest things to do and even after having an osteophyte removed and a cervical fusion and nerve damage in my left arm I obviously have  a lot more movemebt/strenght left in my left arm than you do but  I still find that it is hard to get a fitted jersey bottom sheet on, I cannot imagine how you manage that one?

I am very adaptable,I use head, shoulder, knee, thigh,my left forearm is used as a tool for supporting stuff,i even use my teeth to tie things,my bed is a breeze i buy queensize sheets but have only got a double bed.bit loose but who cares.

My left arm is my lever arm,I cant hold anything so I use it to push things against other things to trap them,I can close my hand but not open it,I used to have an armbrace with a wire outrigger that supported leather slings on elastic to lift my fingers.Got rid of that as it was dangerous, now have just a standard wrist brace with velcro straps with Alloy splints in it,and a type of "Knucle Duster" contraption that is spring loaded to help flex the ends of my fingers.Wish i could show you in a photo,i had bone spurs penetrate the C7 and C8 nerves on left, just bad luck the doctors never got it quickly enough the second time, after the C8 was damaged i had a lobster claw (2 fingers & thumb)when C7 went i lost the thumb and 2 fingers, they just clawed up,its called a "claw hand",its not a big deal, just skin and bone really,no muscle left on it,just bad luck really.

billy

Young Billy , use one of those square  thingies to hold the jar,and one to hold the lid ,it works for me and I have very littlle strenth in my wrists

I use them but they do not stop movement vertically, sounds good on paper but in reality any downward pressure also involves a twisting action, the mat stops turning/twisting not tipping.

These vacuum lids are damn tight, once popped its fairly good, but I would hate to be crippled in both hands with arthritis, but maybe i am just getting weaker,I am not getting better.

billy

Well just got a nice surprise,I ordered an Egg Cracker and a few days ago it was advertised at $28.00 including postage, well it just cost me $8.90 incuding postage O/nite express, how can an item change from 28 bucks delivered to 9 bucks delivered?

I aint complaining,it was a website link from here too :- http://www.oo.com.au/

Will let you know how it goes when i get it cool.

billy
