Global Warming?

Has anyone been following the global warming saga and wondered like me just how much of it is pure spin?

Remember how Kevin Rudd attached himself to Al Gore's coat-tails on global warming during the election campaign, to capture the green vote? Remember how Rudd was gazumped during the election campaign by Howard when outbidding each other on its commencement year? Now Rudd is locked into it, to appease the greens. He rushed out and signed the Kyoto agreement which has done what???

From what I have read and according to Chris Kenny former political adviser who quotes The Hadley Centre for Climate Predictions and Research in the UK, "global temperatures have dropped since 1998 but are expected to rise again soon". Does that mean that the world climate peaks and troughs naturally?

"Australia produces only 1.5% of all global emissions, meaning we could shut the whole nation down, scrap our cars, close our factories and huddle at home under blankets and the carbon emissions would continue to grow strongly. China's growth would add our emissions to its own within a year".

So IF we are to pay more for power petrol and food, in truth it will make NO difference.

The idiot currently in charge of this country is running around trying to convince world leaders to follow his knee-jerk policy of climate change/carbon emission taxes. They are fobbing him off saying they will 'look into' carbon emissions around 2050.

Kenny suggests the Opposition will simply sit back and let Labor run themselves into the ground. Becoming so electorally unpopular with the huge hike in cost of living through emission taxes, they will be swept from power as swiftly as they entered. These new emission taxes added to the recession in the USA which is flowing on here, makes our future grim indeed.

What do you think?

I think as far as it goes it is cyclic--BUT I do think that we have to STOP chopping down forests--stop oil spills--and stop thowing rubbish around--and generally respect the planet---I wonder if the cruise ships still throw all their garbage off the ship--I know they always used to. When you see how some people and also most 3rd world countries treat the planet it is no wonder we have trouble--we have to start at these habits 1st I would think--and also it gets me that they ask US to walk to the shops and work--BUT they are still aloowing car racing--and such etc etc

To me it is just a big sham.

The engineers that are working on these alternative power systems and fuels say it will be many decades before they are ready. Alcohol fuel for autos is many years away due to the lack of fuel making grains and refineries to make the fuel. Some think the hydrogen cars will do the job. But so far there are only a few that have dared to be sold, at extreme prices, and they still have plenty of problems with the fuel cells, no generally available distribution system, some weather problems that are not fully resolved.

To get enough wind mill power or the sun generated power will take many years to develop and build. Some reports are that in 20 or 30 years of building such power sources there would only be a small percentage of the power the US needs. And what will the power be when the winds quite or at night or under clouds for the sun generated power. Still need to have a strong and reliable power source for those times.

Most wind mills will be in the windy areas of the US and the sun power will mostly be in the dry hot deserts of the south west US. But the highly developed and populated areas are many miles distant from these windy and desert areas. More and newer power lines will be needed to get this power distributed. But in come the ones that want no new power lines. A dilemma.

Even with all these known problems of moving forward into the cleaner environment the movement is to have instant changeover. Such foolish demands that will only force troubles and problems on to the middle class and retirees.

The wealthy folks don't care about high food and petrol prices. They can afford all this nonsense with little discomfort. Probably no discomfort. Al Gore is making millions off this global warming panic. He sells 'global neutrality - carbon credits' to all the people that are misguided by his frantic cries. He still flies his private jets around the world and lives in three of the dirty power using houses.

What a wonderful sham we are living in.

I am all for doing the right things as they are ready for us to use. It is time for the evolution to take place. No revolution acts will help us now, but will instead force us into dangerous economic times world wide.

.

Definitely spin. And until China and other highly populated countries agree to curb their output of greenhouse gases we alone with achieve nothing. It makes me cringe when I see Krudd kowtowing to leaders of these countries when they are probably having a good laugh. Australia is just a very small nation, population wise, It would devastate our employment and low income earners if prices were increased because of emission taxes. And the worst part is, it would make no difference to the world.

And I agree with BFrank. The government is digging itself a hole and the quicker they bury themselves the better.

Let someone who isn't dillusional have a go.

Margaret.

Thank you for your responses. I thought I may have been trampled in the rush of true believers (or should that read those truly duped?) of our government's spin.

Yes I agree there are scores of things that could be done for our planet before our leaders charge off at breakneck speed on something they seem to know almost nothing about. Still I guess when you are Prime Minister and dont know much you would get all these 'advisers' with their own agenda blowing all sorts of nonsense in your ear.

Further to Labor digging themselves into a hole over this, it will be interesting to see what happens when parliament resumes and the minor parties start blocking legislation in the Senate. Could this lead to a double dissolution and our chance to tell these pin-heads what we really think of their performance thus far?

Pollution is an issue that needs to be addressed, no doubt. Most sensible people would be all for cutting pollution, but with a measured sensible approach to the problem.

But, to try and shove down our throats an unproven theory that we are causing climate cyclical upheaval is the greatest con of this century.

The Greens here in Australia will have much to answer for, as they are responsible for the election of this incompetent, populist govt, that is rolling this great country down a very slippery slope.

There is talk already of job losses.

OIL giant Mobil could be forced to close its Altona refinery when the Rudd Government introduces a carbon emissions trading scheme.

The closure of the refinery, which supplies half of Victoria's fuel needs, would cut competition and could push up petrol prices.

Altona, in the western suburbs of Melbourne is in the Labor heartland. I wonder how they are feeling.

Mr Brumby, the current Victorian premier is warning that our power here in this state of which 90% comes from the Latrobe Valley brown coal, is seriously at risk, both in terms of costs and jobs, blackouts and the like.

I can't believe the change that has come over this country in a few short months, from a nation of virtually full employment, and a sense of anticipation for better things to come, with a steady hand on the reins of the economy,to a nation that has become a place of doom and gloom, with even bodies such as the Business council reporting that business cofidence is at it's lowest level in 16 years.

I bought those new light globes a few months ago for an exorbitant price and they have already gone -- but where do I get rid of them? Some say you shouldn't put them in the bin, and I hear that if they break they are very dangerous, dont scummy because you will spread the mercury etc etc So now I just look for the old globes which strangely enough are so much cheaper, but getting harder to get. We are told not to use the FREE plastic bags at the check out, but others say they are an extremely minor problem, and lets face it wont that mean that people will be buying more cling wrap, bin bags, sandwich and frig bags from the Supermarket shelves and of course the green bags which are so easy to forget, oops have to BUY another one, which I believe dont break down for years in the environment. I now stare the checkout person in the eye and say "Yes I'll have a plastic bag thanks" and I use them for bin bags, frig bags, etc etc even doggy-do bags. So who is doing their thing for the environment and who is making the extra money. And dont get me started on the money big business and the government are going to make out of the carbon credit trade. I wonder if someone can tell me why we still dont know what the weather is really and truly going to be like next week. The rich get richer and the poor are going along with it. Yes its spin alright, and the very people who will not give up their omitting life styles, big expensive house, cars and jet etc etc are the ones that will get richer.

Yes it makes furious when they talk of NO MORE plastic bags --when there is so much over packageing--so many bags you can BUY --I bet that they won't stop making or selling them--plus nylon fishing lines/ and such things that never break down--when they are able to make plastic bags that DO break down--(some of mine do b4 I get home ) it is a money making racket thats for sure--I reuse my plastic bags I get from the shops--when I was up north in the Gulf country--I saw (and have photos) of how the comercial fishing fleet oil changed their boats and just threw the oil AND the drums over board--untill we get rid of these brainless idiots what is the use of all this spin.

Ive been stock-piling plastic Supermarket bags for a couple of years to use in my kitchen rubbish bin etc, following all the talk of banning them here at years end .

I think I may have got a bit carried away because Ive got boxes of them out in the shed.LOL

You may find they have alrady broken down then--
