Food Standards Australia New Zealand said the butter products might contain microbial contamination that could cause illness.

Saputo Dairy Australia said the salted and unsalted butter products had been sold nationally at Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, Costco and independent supermarkets.

They have a range of best before dates up until June 24, 2022.

People who have the butter products in their refrigerators at home are advised not to eat the products and return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.

The latest recall affects Snackers Market Little Pickers Cubed Tasty Cheese and Mini Crackers (35g) and Snackers Market Little Pickers Cubed Tasty Cheese and Pretzels (40g) with use-by dates up to February 3 next year.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand said people should not eat the affected products and return them to the store they were purchased at for a refund.

It said anybody who has eaten the product and is concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

It's the second packaged cheese product in a matter of days to be placed under recall due to listeria concerns.

On Tuesday, cheese packs with cabanossi and salami sold in Woolworths, IGA stores and other independent grocers in much of the country were also recalled.

Cheese and salami or cabanossi products.

 What is listeria?

Listeria is a bacteria that can be particularly dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn babies, elderly people and people with weakened immune systems.

If eaten, listeria can cause listeriosis, which can be fatal in some cases.

According to the federal health department, listeriosis symptoms include fever, muscle aches and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea and diarrhoea.

In the most serious cases, it can spread to the central nervous system, cause blood poisoning or meningitis (inflammation of the membrane outside of the brain).

In pregnant women, it can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.

According to NSW Health, high-risk foods for listeria contamination include cold deli meats, soft cheeses, rockmelon, raw seafood, unpasteurised milk and pre-prepared salads.

Thanks Suze.
