Firies and scomo

Put this down somewhere safe AND write it on the wall to never be forgotten. Remember it when voting comes around, as I found there are a lot of brain damaged poeple out there who have exceedingly short memories.

Australia needs a national summit to address how the country should prepare for and resource bushfire emergencies in a changed climate, former emergency leaders say. It comes after the prime minister, Scott Morrison, rejected calls on Tuesday for additional help for volunteers. Asked how tens of thousands of volunteers were expected to continue without pay, Morrison said they “want to be there”. “What we’re saying long term is there needs to be a paradigm shift for how we deal with these fires,” said Greg Mullins, one of the former fire chiefs.

The above comes from the Guardian.

What the hell? These firies need not only our gratitude but the help they need. In case Scomo doesn't realise it, these guys and gals have been fighting these fires now for quite some time and they are bloody tired.

If whoever is reading this votes the friggin idiot back as a PM, you are as brainless as he is.

Rosebud you are absolutely right!

I heard something it sounds like this.....Morrison doesn't give a stuff, this PM is all about volunteer's it costs his penny pinching Govt nothing, and if you lose your job because you volunteered to save a community, who gives a stuff, certainly not Scomo.

I'm certain the world will survive for a long long, time.  The human race probably won't.  It's possible that the human race can collectively do something to provide a long term future for itself.  The existance of humans will have very little affect on the world.

Likely to go back closer to the big bang theory. By the time we have gone and the planet alone is left, there will be buggar all trees, no wildlife, no marine life, no birdlife. we will be back to the amoeba life once again.

I saw on the t.v. last night, humiliating footage of Scott Morrison criticising Fire Chief Christine Nixon in 2009, because she took a break to dine out, during the Black Saturday bush fires. He said it was "bad judgement" on her part. He is such a hypocrit and has been accused of leading the bush-fire ravaged country "leaderless". Could you imagine Winston Churchill during the Second World War saying he needed a break because he had worked too hard".?And that pathetic Deputy P.M when asked a question he just nods, has nothing to say. I have a  nickname for him Noddy.

No surprise HOLA,humiliating footage is the (norm)when it comes to Scott Morrison, wonder if he took that lump of coal in his back pocket on his overseas holiday.

Emergency Volunteers don't want to have to protect Members pf Parliament and other officials while trying to fight fires.

No, especially if those fires are threatening Parliament House!

Sad to say Scomo has really lost it. Goes on Holidays and the only thing that really brought him back was the people asking "Where the bloodyhell are you?" He then cuts his holidays short and says in hindsight I shouldn't have gone. Too Late you did! Shows you don't give a rats arse anbout the land, people ar country. But after returning you add even more salt to the would and had the audacity to say "I promised my kids a holiday". A lot more believable if they were 5 - 7 years old, but they are not. They would have understood if you were a proper Christian father and explained it to them. In the mid 1990's I had a visit from a couple of JW's who brought their grandson with them. I chatted to him as my hubby spoke to the other two who also lived on a property and gave us advice on the set up to maximise water collection etc. This young man was 8 years old but as I spoke to him, he seemed much older than his 8 years. Doesn't say much about your training of your children, does it Scomo?

Time to do something Scomo, get off that chair in the corner where you are sulking and sucking your thumb, and do something about climate change. The people are doing their bit, its about time you did yours. And stop changing your tune, admit it IS fires and climate change that are connected, stop adding more to water it down by saying there are other factors. That's BS, the only other factor is the drongo in charge of Australia sitting in a corner doing sweet F.A.

If you were even thinking of those Firies who give their all, and have been doing so for close to 4 months now, CALL IN THE BLOODY ARMY to assist. If ever they were needed, IT IS NOW! Give the Firies a well earned break.

Well said Beemee!

Beemee, what can the Army do?  They would be as usefull as if you  emptied all the factories and offices and put them on the fire lines.  They would only be in the road.

I spent four years in the Army and learned absolutley nothing about fighting fires.  What we need is a Firefighter Reserve Unit, it could be run along the lines of the Army Resreve  where you are paid for time spent training, time on the fire front and for those who are unemployed, exemptions from the job seaking procedures based on time spent training or service provided.

Serving in such a unit would need to be voluntery as a person forced to do such services would be useless when actually needed.

Dear ex PS, help them just by having the numbers to fight this mess Scomo has got us into.

These Firies so badly need a break, to go home to a hot shower, a warm bed, a decent sit down hot meal, spend a few days with the family, spend time with the kids if they have them.

It has already been said that there were over 1000 Firies fighting this, how much more could we achievew if there were 2,000 or more. The Army and maybe the Airforce would have big machinery to do fire breaks, or help in other ways. Everyone knows the Forces have way bigger equipment than state owned Firies.

Plus, when things get bad, be it earthquakes, weather situations, floods and etc, other countries call their armed forces to help. What's wrong with our lot? Not damn good enough? Bet that's BS, they are a bunch of well trained people and know very well how to organise any situation. Scomo could not organise a fook in a brothel.

I agree with you Beemee, the army can help, but they can not do what firefighters do.  Using the engineers to create fire breaks, training pilots and adapting planes to drop fire inhibitors are good ideas, unfortunatley this would require the government to admit they got it wrong.  In my experiance, not something this government will ever do, they would see us all burn rather than admit to a mistake.

I remember being in an APC manouvering through flood waters in the Brisbane floods, we were glad to help, we also had casualties through hitting power cables that were underwater, their is no reason some personell shouldn't be trained to help out.  But they have to be trained.

Military supporting fire crews

23 December 2019

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) continues to bolster firefighting efforts nationwide. At the weekend it was helping to evacuate Shoalhaven via helicopter, as well as contributing to aerial planning and checking on homes cut off by blazes.

A large aerial tanker and spotter aircraft have been operating out of RAAF Base Richmond. Elsewhere, the naval base HMAS Albatross at Nowra has been assisting with water refuelling and fire retardant loading of aircraft on the South Coast.

The ADF said as part of its ongoing support, it was also transporting firefighters by air. It is also providing 250 firefighters with three meals a day in the Northern Rivers region.

Among the overall support it is offering until at least February, the ADF has clarified that it is not "trained, equipped or certified" to undertake firefighting but has the principal duties of proving airlift and logistical support. Source.

Also read they are deployed clearing fire affected roads.

A good and sensible use of ADF personell, and I would warrant they were glad to pitch in.

Wow, that's more like it.

Winston Churchill led Great Britain to victory during WW2 stumbling through  a haze of cigar smoke and booze. He had a deputy to take over when needed. Morrisson has a deputy, he has all the world’s modern technology at hand including video conferencing. There is no specific need for him to be here for a few days. We are having devasting bushfires, not in the middle of WW2. He can't fight the fires himself. Get a grip people.

@ABC. Leadership is not a matter of ability to perform a specific job by oneself. Leadership means reaching out to people and guide them to achieve a mission. 'A simple definition is that leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. ... He or she is the person in the group that possesses the combination of personality and leadership skills that makes others want to follow his or her direction'.

ScoMo definitely didn't have what it takes as a leader on this occasion. He definitely didn't use video conferencing as you suggested. He definitely didn't reach out to fire-affected people, both the victims and firefighters. He definitely didn't motivate the professional firefighters, volunteers, and their families to keep their morale up. He definitely didn't lend a hand to give support and to give the firefighters and volunteers, their families some sort of respites. If three major States in a state of fire inferno, as a leader of the nation, don't you think ScoMo should lead the charge for solutions and relieves to those who offer their lives to save the community and comfort the fire victims, who have lost all their possessions and life savings.

It may sound harsh on ScoMo, but he chooses to be our Prime Minister. It is no more or less what he said about our firefighters.

He is entitled to a holiday no arguement about that, but it seems he tried to sneak it in without anyone knowing and then returned to save face when caught out.  A leader owns his decisions, he doesn't make a decision then try to weazle out of it when things go wrong.

He says he went because he promised his kids and came back to console the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty, poor cowardly stuff from a man who claimes to be a leader.

There are many men and women on the fire front who had to cancell plans with their kids this Christmas, you don't see many of them leaving the area for family reasons.  I guess some people have a greater sense of responsibility than others.

Going on holiday is not the issue, it is how he handled the matter that does not sit well with me.

I agree with all you say Curious. Even during the London bombings during WW2, King George and Queen Elizabeth were in amongst the people giving them encouragement  People only want to see their leaders, even if they can't help physically, to show they have their backs.

Well said ABE! Greetings from Lucca and greetings from our PM. How good is that!

I say "Into the Bin", with that one.

@Ray. Your post with Morrison's lovely Christmas and New Year Greetings may be a sore point to those fire victims of 1125 homes destroyed or damaged. Their Christmas and New Year are not going to be as cozy, and warm and fuzzy as the Morrisons. I don't mean the Morrisons does deserve a wonderful time for their family gathering for this holiday season. As a leader of this nation, Mr. Morrison should show some exemplary leadership in solidarity with his people.

@ Curious.

Clearly you have never had the opportunity to lead anything. If you did, you would realise it is certainly beneficial to get away from the “problem”  for a while in order to think more clearly. Yes, maybe it would have pleased a lot more people if he did not have that holiday, that is not to say, many will hold that against him for long but will watch what he does in the future.

@NSWRFS

Building Impact Assessment teams continue to work their way across firegrounds. Approximately 100 homes are believed to have been lost since last Thursday. Exact numbers will be provided as access is achieved into isolated roads and villages within the fire affected areas.
