Firies and scomo

Put this down somewhere safe AND write it on the wall to never be forgotten. Remember it when voting comes around, as I found there are a lot of brain damaged poeple out there who have exceedingly short memories.

Australia needs a national summit to address how the country should prepare for and resource bushfire emergencies in a changed climate, former emergency leaders say. It comes after the prime minister, Scott Morrison, rejected calls on Tuesday for additional help for volunteers. Asked how tens of thousands of volunteers were expected to continue without pay, Morrison said they “want to be there”. “What we’re saying long term is there needs to be a paradigm shift for how we deal with these fires,” said Greg Mullins, one of the former fire chiefs.

The above comes from the Guardian.

What the hell? These firies need not only our gratitude but the help they need. In case Scomo doesn't realise it, these guys and gals have been fighting these fires now for quite some time and they are bloody tired.

If whoever is reading this votes the friggin idiot back as a PM, you are as brainless as he is.

And he calls himself a devoted Christian?  He needs to be crucified!

I am not at all surprised by his attitude.

come on cough up, we're trying to save YOUR house.

Tie Him and his mates to a couple of trees near a bushfire and let them feel what it is like to be at the fire front. No one knows what it is like to fight a bushfire until one has been there. I have experienced a bushfire up close in the Victorian mountains and it scared the s**t out of me, but we all kept fighting the fire. Morrison and mates need to change their attitude to the fire situation ASAP. Call the Parliament back and fix the problem!

Exactly as we would expect of self-entitled LNP scum.

Maybe the PM considers that prayer will solve the linked issues of bushfires and global warming, because his government of deniers surely is doing nothing constructive about them.  How come these brain dead LNP idiots were elected again?

The lack of leadership is certainly overshadowing our festive spirit with a promise of a dark Christmas. This reminds me of the old saying long ago: - if no water drinks wine, and if no bread eats cake. What happens to the land of ample bounties to share? Doesn't our National Anthem stand for anything and shouldn't it be respected by the one, who leads? Where is Tony Abbott now, who used to fight bushfire alongside with the self-sacrificed and brave volunteer-fire-fighters? Hasn't he set a good example for the current incumbent? Scomo, it is Christmas! You are in the power to bring joy to your and my community. Be a Christian in Action.

Tony has been spotted out there again fighting the current fires.  People may have loved or hated him as a Prime Minister but there is no doubt that Tony Abbott has the Australian spirit of getting in there and helping out when needed, for this he will always have my respect.

Scomo is obviously a Sunday only Christian, he doesn't have an ounce of compassion ot integrity in him.  These latest statements prove that he has no heart at all!

Wasnt there a famous quote by a former PM that was dismissed.....I think history will repeat itself. Its time the Govnor General stepped in and sacked him! Enough is enough

Well l  have to stay with the majority here and say what a pathetic but not surprising from our bible bashing PM - certainly does not practice what he preaches.

I think you guys need to take a cold shower.  Firefighting is a STATE issue so complain to Gladys and Daniel, and stop blaming everything on the PM who, by the way, just announced a further $11m funding fo4 th3 National Aerial Firefighting Centre

“And we all know … that climate change, along with many other factors, contribute to what is occurring today.”

This is so true ! Keep forests away from homes or keep homes away from forests but, where is the NSW State Premier on this?

Why doesn't the NSW State buy its own aerial support water bombers? Saving money for New Year Eve fireworks? - Footy stadiums more important?

"A nation grappling with a crippling drought and a sky darkened by fires we are told are without determinable end"

This is each State's own problem foremost, not the PM's. That's why the States have their own governments, own separate Constitutions, own Treasury Departments separate to the Federal government.

Drought and bush fires are the responsibility of the State governments.

Freedom of religion is the federal government's responsibility.

Finally - a couple of sensible comments, as well as from Horace Cope below! Guardian and such lefty / Green commentators DO NOT help to put out fires, they simply want to use the topic to start talking about their favourite topc about climate change by humans (which does nothing to stop fires) - just to attack Australia, but with no guts to attack China the biggest and increasing emitter of polluting gases.

With 85% of fires resulting from human ignition activity (noting the climate does not ignite fires), it is the State Govts responsibility to focus more resources on Prevention - Get Police to patrol all risk areas, use cameras (they have lots to catch so-called speeding), drones, helicopters, etc, to catch arsonists (punish the harder, including parents of nasty kids), and put out fires asap when they start instead of finding out after they are too big. Yes, put in more paid resources, don't leave it to volunteers. More water-bombing aircraft as well.

Firstly, to most of the posters, Shorten lost the election so just get over it. Secondly, what part of volunteer do you not understand? A volunteer is one who willingly gives their time free to assist the community in many different ways. They can walk away any time they choose. Australia has a very high number of volunteers in a variety of callings and each and every one of them does it because they want to. As the PM pointed out, fire fighters are a state responsibility and the federal government has responded favourably to any requests put to them by the states.

How does the State support fire fighter volunteers?

Does the state pay them $547.94 each day for volunteering , risking their life, like the MPs pay themselves and do bugger all?

Hypocrites !

Don't even open that can of worms! We are left with this abominable, inhumane mob because of Palmer and the misinformation re coal and all the othe lies that were told. They want to get rid of the unions, control the media, and save money on the wrong things as per usual.
A lighter version of Trump who can act and distort reality is our illustrious leader!

Well Arvo, the state gives volunteers a fire engine, the necessary equipment to fight a fire and protective clothing. Their pay is all that can be expected for a volunteer who gives their time to help the community because they care.

To Paddington, read my first sentence. Shorten lost, Morrison won, get over it. The misinformation about coal was mainly because Shorten told those in Victoria that the Adani mine project would be stopped by labor when he was elected but Shorten told those in North Queensland that he supported the Adani mine. His hypocrisy brought him undone. Do you really support those union thugs who bash people who won't join a union? I don't.

What the hell has Shorten got to do with anything, last I checked he was no longer the leader of the opposition.

You can't hide the miserable performance of a leader by trying to redirect the conversation to another target especially one who is no longerc elevant.

Time to face facts, we were fooled into voting a dud into a leadership role, we must cut out the cancer at the first opportunity.

SLOMO is all clever PR and no substance.  I would suspect he claims to be Christian to get the vote of a certain section of our community.  He certainly does not seem to exhibit their values.

“Time to face facts, we were fooled into voting a dud into a leadership role, we must cut out the cancer at the first opportunity.”

Got to say nobody fooled me, why? Because I’ve got a brain in my head. I do my research, I investigate both sides and the perimeters as well. My nana used to say, to wash a donkey’s tail is a waste of time and soap. Take a bow Horace.

This would be such a worthy way to stimulate the economy as spending is still down despite being December.

The NSW Rural Fire Service does own a Large Air Tanker - a Boeing 737 water bomber; Purchased by the State government in 2018 I think. Other fire fighting aircraft are leaked/chartered as necessary ie in the fire season!

And the Sydney Harbour New Year's Eve fireworks are funded by the Council, so you need to have a go at Mayor Clover Moore about that not the State Premier.

Can I please ask that if you want to complain about something, you make sure you know who is responsible for the activity BEFORE you burst into print

Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.’ (from Volunteering Australia)

You do not have a contract of employment as a volunteer, so you do not have the same rights as an employee or worker. Volunteers are given an agreement that explains: the level of supervision and support they’ll get.

Volunteers know what they are getting themselves into. I say, the community should protect the firies, it would be fantastic if the government did as well, but they are under no obligation since they already have paid firefighters.

The State government and the RFS have plenty of 'obligations' to the volunteer firefighters; the Workplace Health & Safety requirements are very comprehensive!
