Final Neighbours episode leaves nation in tears

Australian social media erupted on Thursday night as classic TV soap Neighbours aired its final episode ever.

There had been much speculation about how the series would end. The star-studded episode saw many Ramsay St favourites return such as Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia and Hollie Vallance.

But it was the reuniting of Mike and Jane, played by Guy Pearce and Annie Jones, that really brought the nation to tears.

During the episode, Mike laid his feelings on the line for Jane and it proved to be the happy ending fans across the world needed.

“The reality is I'm still in love with you. Probably more now than I ever used to be,” Pearce’s Mike told an emotional Jane.

And Twitter exploded with the news.

“I am surprised by how moved I was by the Neighbours finale. Mike Pearce & Annie Jones were the stars of the show. The nostalgia has my heart bursting & my love for is stronger than ever #NeighboursFinale #Neighbours,” one user wrote.

“Mike and Jane being #Neighbours endgame after all this time,” wrote another.

“Much love to Guy and Annie. Their chemistry was on point. Need a Mike and Jane spin-off series #Neighbours #mikejane #original80sneighbours,” one commented.

Do you watch the Neighbours finale? Did it live up to your expectations?
