Father's Treasures

Hi, I hope someone can help. I am moving to a unit and have been keeping my father's treasures these past 8 years. But he has a huge collection of Classical Records that I would like to give away to only someone who loves Classical music. I cant sell them, but would love them to go to a good home. All in great condition. I will keep a few. I can give more details if someone is interested.
Hopeful. Mignon

Hello Mignon and welcome.

...

I wonder would there be a Seniors Nursing Home near you where

they have a record player and SO many beautiful and sometimes

lonely folk would really enjoy your Dad's treasures. Your Dad would be

pleased to see people who love Classical Music given something he

treasured to brighten the days for them.

..

Just a thought

all the best

Phyl.

Thanks Phyl, good idea, but I really want them to go to a someone.

Mignon, I feel that there are probably many here that would love them including me but as we dont know where you are posting from it is impossible to see if it is feasable .I cannot send private messages on this site anymore and have not been able to do so for some time as I keep getting an error page when I try. Perhaps if you just posted your city and state that would help . Apart from that I suggest that you donate them to a home for the aged as that would be wonderful to know that they would bring pleasure to so many people.Wobbly :)

I live in Ocean Grove.Victoria. I have worked in a nursing home, and i dont want my dads precious things going there.

Too far away for me Mignon unfortunately but perhaps now you will get someone close to your area to contact you re private message just be aware that they may be rather collectors items some of them and therefore could perhaps be valuable. We get people and dealers coming into Vinnies every week looking for old lps as there is a group that does collect them and swap them for purely financial gain. So be careful good luck Wobbly.

Usually the people who are prepared to use and value records are those who already have reasonable hi fi and are prepared to pay for them. That is, they are already set-up, have had an interest for life and might be out to upgrade a record or acquire a rare disk.

While your offer is generous and of great credit to you, what about doing the exhausting ring around of record shops - they are niche suppliers these days - and sell them on? That way they will find appreciative homes.

As a thought, you could phone the school of music of a university or TAFE to make a gift of the records. If not interested they could advise you on advertising within the uni or TAFE to attract music students. Who better to relish the records and pass the joy on to children than a music student?

Thanks nautilus, you have got me thinking now. I am just so emotionally involved, hard to be practical. M

I forgot to mention secondary schools.

When I was learning an instrument the Catholic nuns were the champions of piano and violin education in Australia. I went out of school hours to a Catholic girls' school in the country to learn piano. I am not a Catholic and I am often a critic of the church and its ways, but culture in Australia would have been greatly diminished if it were not for the Catholic nuns.

The Girls' Grammar schools also have fine traditions in keeping classical music alive. Just phone and ask. You might even be invited to the next concert.

Brilliant Idea Nautiluss ,Well done.Wobbly
