Fatal Police chases
We seem to be offered the alternatives of either accepting that the public may be at risk of injury or death through high speed police chases or just letting the crims get away. This is what I am seeing in TV commentary etc.
With all the technology and communication hardware available, I just dont see the choices being so limited. For instance, I dont see why the police cant just broadcast a general alert to all other police cars in the area (maybe even include taxi's, ambulances, fire brigades etc) to monitor the speeding offender and track their location. Police have video equipment etc (in most cars, I believe) they should be able to gather evidence and record who was driving etc. Isnt this a prime example of when a police helicopter might be used? Even if this is not practical, the car must stop sometime and with a broadcast alert, the offender would eventually be caught. In any event, its hard to justify high speed police pursuits in high density populated areas as recent tragedies adequately demonstrate.
Very well said Hugo ......and I wonder also what would the Police do to stop the offenders asuming that they do eventualy catch up to them............a futile exercise it seems to me ................
