Fans divided over new female Doctor Who
The BBC has broken with tradition and announced the new Doctor Who will be a woman in the next series.
In an ad after the broadcast of the Wimbledon final, the BBC revealed that Jodie Whittaker will be the 13th time lord.
Whittaker, known to some for her role in the TV series Broadchurch, is the first woman to assume one of television’s best-known roles since the Doctor first appeared in 1963.
The reaction has been mixed, with plenty of fans excited by the prospect, but many upset at the break with tradition.
For all the controversy about the selection, Sydney Newman, the creator of the series first suggested the Doctor should be metamorphosed into a woman back in 1986.
Was the BBC right to break with tradition and cast a female Doctor Who? Who is your favourite Doctor?
I don't like it. I have nothing against the actress just Doctor shouldn't be female
My favourite was Tom Baker.
