Expect to pay more for your coffee at the cafe

The drastic rise in milk prices are expected to be passed onto consumers with some cafes around Australia expecting to raise the price on a cup of coffee by over $0.50.

"The price of everything is going up, the coffee, the milk, the packaging, everything has gone up," Hobart cafe owner Sue Stagg said.

Will you reconsider going to cafes if prices continue to rise?

I was shocked yesterday when I went to a coffee shop I regularly attend. I always get a small Latte and 1 slice of Raisin Toast which was $5.20  , and yesterday it shot up to $9.20, Guess I won't be going back there again.  What a rip-off.

Wow Hola, that's a big jump.

Yes, I don't know how they going to blame this one on the Ukraine. Maybe it's something like Mars attacks. On the point of price gouging, on Monday past I went into my regular Coles store to purchase a couple of litre cartons of Long Life milk which I normally drink as their convenient size and always in the house and found that overnight they had risen from $1.35 a litre to $1.60 a litre, a rise of some 18.5%. I would imagine the other supermarkets would follow the trend if not already. I didn't notice this in their propaganda speeches, whereby they quote all the products, hundreds of them, that they keep discounting, products 90% of people would never use. It wasn't that long ago that long life milk was $0.90 per litre then $1.00 then $1.25 then $1.35. I believe staples such as bread, milk, etc., products all families require as a necessity not a luxury, should be kept the utmost minimum price. It's an absolute disgrace, the bread I used to buy (Home Brand) was a $1.30 now it's $1.90. I live on a very tight budget and it's difficult enough, without supermarkets price gouging on necessities and bragging how they drop the price of candied lemon drops from Spain or something as idiotic as that. Perhaps if they really looked at trying to save the average family money and not making ridiculous toys miniatures for children to blackmail their parents into going to that supermarket and wasting money, the community would be a lot better off. Jacka.

Well said Jacka, couldn't agree more, it's most always the non-staples that are on weekly "special", and as for the ridiculous collectables, dispose of them, and drop the price of staple items that families NEED!
