Evaporative Coolers

I hate air conditioning so my wife went and bought us an evaporative cooler.
I love it but now she has been told that the water rests in the furniture, so she wont use it.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Please

Ive had both types Jaxx .

Evaporative works by a fan blowing through a water laden material (same principle as a wet towel hung in front of a basic fan) and consequently the moisture content in the air increases and it becomes far more humid and not to my liking. I think someone is exaggerating about water in the furniture, at that rate it would be running down the walls. They are useless in high humidity areas and generally need a window or door open to get a 'cross flow' successfully working.

Ive got reverse cycle ducted which is dearer to run but in my opinion is far more effective. I run mine in short bursts of a couple of hours while the neighbors run their evap cooler around the clock.

Do a search on www.forum.homeone.com.au a home reno site that covers both types.

Jaxx may I ask what you hate about Air Con'? I have a friend that says the same--I used to hate it when I worked in a big company--as I always felt like it dried out my eyes and my nose and my skin--but having has one at home for a few years now I don't find it does that at all. I love my Air con and I am sure I would find it very hard to get through the summer without it. I have seen mould on walls with the evaporative ones

Seems like the evaporative gets the thumbs down.

Air con seems to make me drowsy and not able to think properly, I said Air Con, not Old age!

Thanks folks

Not necessarily Jaxx, it all comes down to personal choice. If you browse that website I gave you some folk in there swear by them and wouldn't have any other. It all depends where you live and what the climate is like.

My experience with them was in the first house we built where to get it to operate we had to open a window to get the 'cross flow' happening, trouble was the bedroom window faced north and with a hot northerly blowing it was totally useless. Besides I didn't like the humidity.

When ever buying costly things it pays to do some 'homework' first so at least you have some idea
