Early Election

Is there any truth in the new rumour that Rudd is getting ready to
call an early election in August? He & his minders must be
frightened that his downhill spiral will continue to the inevitable
dismissal of his Party, or the would not even concider it. It is
generally accepted that an electionin July/August (middle of
winter) will cost the Government votes. In actual fact, I think from
memory, that only 2 of our 40+ Federal elections has ever been
called in these months & 1 of those was in the middle of a World
War, so is very much an exception. So much for the outcome of
his $38M emergency advertising campaign.

Don't know about an early election Innes, but I would think Rudd's advisers, if he ever listens to them, would have him wait a little longer in the hope he isn't so much on the nose with the electorate.

That $38M you speak of, is that in addition to the advertisement thats been running for sometime now about what a wonderful health system we now have?

It's hard to say, Innes. But certainly August seems to be the month most touted in the rumour mill.

There'd need to be an announcement pretty soon for July at least within days....that's for sure.

As far as I know, the 38million was allowed for in the budget solely for the campaign of misinformation on the miners' tax, Tanwin.

Innes will know for sure.

One wonders how many homeless could be housed for that kind of money...you know the homeless numbers that Rudd promised to halve sometime soon. The money being spent on the so called health reform is a further disgrace to the govt, as neither of these policies have gone through Parliament.

Yes Tanwin, it was an "emergency" allocation of funds to combat the

opposition to the mining super tax bill, which has not even been put

before Parliament yet. The "emergency" campaign ads started last

Sunday morning. You are correct, in that both Rudd & his ignored

advisers would want to wait, unless the believe that it will only get worse,

so the sooner the better. Bear in mind that he can delay an election

until Feb/Mar 2011, in which time Gillard could get an "unexpected"

promotion. By going to the polls late August Rudd ensures that he

can't be replaced befor the Poll. There would appear to be no limit

to what Rudd will do to achieve his aims

why worry about an early election, but worry about bogus how to vote cards ,like Mike Rann did in South Australia last election,so just watch for what Krudd might do, he will do anything to stay in Power

Is anyone going to vote Labor????????????????????????????????

Is anyone going to vote Labor????????????????????????????????

Oh yes. For starters, if you happened to watch the ABC/ Q&A;branch of the ALP last night, you will have seen Kevin Sheedy, prominent in the AFL world announce his intention to vote ALP. Sheedy is a smart, intelligent businessman, and wields a lot of influence.

The young people in the audience cheered him every time he spoke...at least for the half-hour I watched. So there's at least one group who cheer Rudd on.

Also,a lot of supposedly disenchanted ALP voters are intending to vote Green, and they know full well that's a vote for Labor.

Then you have the many recipients of the $900 cheque, some of whom, can't get past that lump sum in their pocket.

There are those who got their free insulation, that's the ones whose house hasn't caught fire yet.

There may even be I suspect many who think Rudd's $38million advertising campaign against miners is justified!

Everyone of course is entitled to their opinion, but there is no doubt many feel let down by the govt and Rudd in particular.

Many people change their minds right there in the polling booth.

But as Innes always says it'll probably be the genuine swinging voters who will in the end decide his fate.

Also,a lot of supposedly disenchanted ALP voters are intending to vote Green, and they know full well that’s a vote for Labor.

I wonder if those so disenchanted will even look into the type of Green candidate being offered? The woman hoping to hold the balance of power in the Senate by standing in SA as the lead candidate is a typical loony Green and when younger apparently protested at the drop of a hat.

Apparently she is quite happy to increase household bills to ease pollution, has smoked dope and willing to accept CLIMATE CHANGE REFUGEES? As David Koch said on Sunrise we badly need a third major party because "who wants the loony policies of the Greens"? but I digress.

This candidate is a lawyer, University lecturer, protester, dope smoker and is married to Mark Parnell a member of the SA Upper House and State Greens leader. If she is successful I can see why she doesn't care if the Loony Greens introduce a harsher ETS than Rudd tried, because she will have 2 Parliamentary salaries in the one household and the rest of us can go suffer.

She cycles everywhere (or catches buses) and is currently recuperating after being skittled by a 4 wheel drive. Is this what the Greens want us all to do and virtually revert to cycling, walking or using a bloody horse and cart in the name of being green?

What an absolute wanker!

It could get worse if the libs / nationals get back in.

fwed at least the Liberals can handle money, they left Krudd a big surplus, and he was like a little boy in a lolly shop and had a big spend up , we have to watch Krudd that he doesn't have bogus how to vote cards like his mate Mike Rann did in South Australia

jessej

How could it possibly get worse fwed? We have had three years of botched projects, costing the country billions of dollars with even more taxpayers money to try and fix the aforesaid projects. In my opinion, for what it is worth, the mining tax is a desperate grab for cash to pay for these mistakes. As previously stated, a vote for the Greens is a vote for Labor and I believe Rudd will allow the Greens to hold him to ransom in his desperate efforts to stay in power sadly to the country's' detriment. .

Also,a lot of supposedly disenchanted ALP voters are intending to vote Green, and they know full well that’s a vote for Labor.

As is a vote for the former Country Party, now the Nationals. a vote for the liberals.

I can understand voters turning to the Greens as many are disappointed with Labor but do not wish to return to the bad days of the liberals, but worse now as they have gone further to the extreme right.

The liberals should now be getting big money from the mining sector for their election advertising as well as the miners advertising for them.

Tony Abbott for PM - I hope not as that would take us back to the last century.

Fewd which plant do you live on, fwed just accept defeat Labor is on the nose.

Fwed when Bob Hawk tried to run a union shop in Melbourne it went broke isn't that proof that Labor cannot handle money????????????????????????????????????/

Fewd which plant do you live on,

I don't live on a plant jesse. (you might wish to take some spelling lessons too)

The voters will elect the next government whether you agree with that or not and we will live with that till the following election.

What you say on here will not change that.

The previous government had a surplus that they got from the sale of Telstra, which they did not wish to spend on hospitals or pensioners.

Now we have to live with a privatised Telstra which is now ripping off Australians with their outrageous charges and poor service.
