Doctors call for handshake ban

Two Welsh doctors have called for the ‘fist bump’ to replace the traditional handshake as it spreads fewer germs.

The two doctors studied how many germs were transferred between people when they shook hands, gave high fives and performed a fist bump.

The findings showed that a traditional handshake transferred 10 times more germs than a fist bump and was generally a lot more hygienic.

Doctors in the US and Britain are now considering handshake bans in a bid to reduce hospital infections, some of which are resistant to antibiotics.

Do you think the handshake will ever be replaced? Do you prefer not to shake hands?

Agree, agree, agree. Whenever I buy a bag of chips, I never never, offer any to anyone, don't know where the hand's been, so I hide and eat it. I don't handshake anyone before going to a meal and nowadays I do the back slap more often.

Now Banjo, say your piece and run, before the vultures attack!!!!!

Too right Reagan, I agree with those doctors. If you put someone's hand under a microscope, what you see will shock you. I think the fist bump works well.

Wait up for me, they're bearing down on us!

At the risk of being accused of nepotism, I agree with both of you.

In the good old days, people died out from diseases, many of which can be avoided these days if we limit contact with germ infested areas, and, unfortunately hands happen to be one of those.

Best avoid sex then. Lots of germy handling in that sort of exercise.

So you have sex with many people do you?? I have sex with the one person only.

Reagen, I believe Robi meant sex with another person, not with oneself

Have you put her under a microscope? Only takes one person to emit a germ or two or three or millions :)

Ha ha Raphael, that is funny!

Raphael,  did you sanitise your hands before touching your keyboard??

Ben - Robi too!! clean hands, clean keyboard!

hehehe, good one Pal, well, I'm off to raid the freezer, Mari's left a feast.

But first must sort out a good movie and early to bed. Big day tomorrow.

Had a laugh today, I must say!

Look people, virtually EVERYTING we humans come in contact with is literally CRAWLING with germs and bacteria. Take a look at a piece of meat under a microscope and you would never eat it. Its all this fuss about "hygiene" that makes us avoid the nasties but in turn weakens our immune system.

Gee, if we are going to be paranoid about a handshake, where does that leave us with kisses and other "contact" persuits? - the human race could die out

In total agreement with you kfchugo.

I am in agreement re the hand shaking -- also hate door knobs and the like too -- always a good move to spray them in your own home,  I always carry hand wipes where ever I go -- because my immune system is compromised I have to be very careful.

Hate those blowers they have in toilets -- what away to spread germs -- I wish they would have paper towels -- I do carry my own small hand towel now

How does your immune system know how to reckognize germs and attack them if you are not exposed to them. Total overreaction.

Of course I am still exposed to germs but I have to be very careful not to expose myself more than I have to,  believe me when you are very imune depressed you sure take a LOT of care -- believe me it is NOT an over reaction!

Sorry PlanB  That comment was not meant for you. It was a general comment only.

No worries sidney

This is a bit rich coming as it does from DOCTORS! Doctors are the worst cuplrits for ignoring basic infection control protocols even in (especially in) hospitals and other clinic settings.

For goodness sake people, just WASH YOUR HANDS and with soap and water - not just a quick rinse under a tap. And keep your fingers away from your eyes, nose and mouth. Its not that hard!

Also IF you have to sneeze/cough etc pull out the neck of your clothing and do the deed down there not into a hand or elbow or nothing
