Do you ask "is that your best price for cash"?

I am annoyed with Harvey Norman!!!!!
.................
We bought a new gas cook top but it came with a piece
albeit all sealed up, missing, so when the Gas man came to
set it up he could not, so it cost us a double call out :( plus a trip
to go get it along with a wait for them to get it in.
Contacted the manager twice and registered letters to boot but
no reply. They do not want to know about it.
.....................
A few weeks ago when buying our big screen tele. asked if we
did not take the smaller free tele. as a gift would there be
any reduction for cash on the television we were looking at.
We found the salesman very rude as he said "Do not take the free
television as simple as that" no, no reduction on the cost of the
television if we bought from them. We did not buy the
television from them needless to say.
.....................
On Saturday we decided on a fridge kind of, at Harvey Norman and
asked "is this your best cash price"? and once again the salesman
in a not nice tone said well "it is already reduced You can pay the full
price instead if you want".
We walked out again as in their ad. they say "We will not be beaten on price"
also we are urged to ask for a bit cheaper when paying cash.
I am right over Harvey Norman and (not that they care) will never walk
in their door again.
We have received very good service from Retravision and The Good Guys
so Harvey Norman's loss not ours.

You re not the only one Phyl judging by the consumer website Not Good Enough where I think they are referred to as Hardly Normal. Perhaps the pressure of commission-only is getting to Harvey Norman's salespeople. I bet Gerry Harvey doesn't know how they are deterring customers.

I dont shop there since I enquired about a digital camera years ago. When I asked if that was his best price he replied "Well if you are serious I will see what the Manager says" "If I wasn't serious why would I ask" I said? So I told him to forget it, then he abused me. JB-Hifi got that sale. I'm a once bitten twice shy shopper and I'm puzzled why you kept returning there?

I shop now at The Good Guys for white goods, my plasma TV (which came with a bonus DVD recorder) and my Dyson cleaner and all were reduced from the advertised price as they say 'for cash'. I dont have any connection with them apart from being a satisfied customer.

I would have tried to contact the manufacturers agent for compensation regarding the missing part in your sealed up cook top carton, because it seems to be their fault at place of manufacture.

Thanks Tanwin! True we were too patient with Harvey Norman. Thanks for alerting

us to the complaints. Had no idea. Never again will I go into their store.

I have never seen so many arrogant salesmen. Actually the bloke we

saw re buying the fridge. said "go see if you can get the fridge

somewhere else at a better price I would" after he had said we could

pay the price before they (supposedly) had taken off a bit if we wanted.

We live and learn.

Our Retrovison --is now Harvey Norman--and have really gone down hill--trouble is it is the only one we have here unless we want to drive 160ks there and back to town--and YES I always ask for the best price---I need a few things and will be going to town to check them out once the schools have gone back

Hi PlanB, One of the things I have been working on is a buying group. I have done a basic deal, but I now need to put it to the test. If you would like to send me a list of the products you are interested in, with accurate model numbers & prices, I will have an opportunity to put my group to the test & possibly get you some great deals. I would have to check delivery costs, so I need to know the name of your town.

I have yet to find the models and prices as I need 2 washing machines--1 for me and 1 for my Son--unless he has already bought one and maybe I need a new fridge for myself as well--I have also been thinking of getting another DVD recorder player for the TV--I have to go and look at all thse into town.

PlanB I suggest you have a gander at the consumer website Not Good Enough before shopping as they highlight the dodgy brands and traders.

Ive no connection with them apart from being a long standing (free) member

Yes Tanwin I have been to that site and also become member--there seems to be a lot of washing machines that get a knock, so hard to know what to buy these days --mine --a Kleenmaid--is 19 years old so I haven't needed to buy one for ages. I am after a large top loader

Yes PlanB washing machines come in for more criticism than most white goods because of their short life span. I hope my old Simpson top loader keeps rattling and banging on for many years to come. One thing I have noticed is machines dont seem to have sud-save now.

I think washing machines are discussed at www.forum.homeone.com.au

Thanks Tanwin--I have always had a long life out of all mine--alos I wonder if it is better to get a direct drive or a belt drive? I have noted that site also thanks
