Do I want a Bread Machine ?

We had a bread machine about 8 years ago & wore it out.It was all the rage then & the bread was beautiful. Change of circumstances & we never bought another one.
Now days the price of GOOD bread is out of sight, & we are thinking "well maybe we might " There is plenty of bread flour available still, but, when we enquired as to the availability of the machines we were told there was no demand for them now. This brings the question, are people still making their own bread,by machine,if not, why did you stop.
I know it can be all made from scratch, but old hands arent any good at it. Because the flour is still easy to get, I feel many are still doing the odd loaf,& would love to know what machine you are using. Help us out here,we cant make up our mind.

My neighbour told me while ago that his nephew is a baker.

They get a huge tub of 'mixture' and all they do is take a handfull, put it in dish it will rise and pronto, bread.

For variation and taste they sprinkle sesame seeds, add other seed or color,

salt, sugar etc.

Flour is organic. If i mix it for pancakes it goes off the next day.

I have read in the past that there are 50 different preservatives they put into the bread.

That was years ago; by now it would be 200 most likely.

But i love it too much to make it. With vegemite---- feel my hips already...

Thanks everyone,I DID IT !!! Went to town this morning & bought a Breville.

Visitors this afternoon ,so when they have gone will sit down & peruse the book & next time we go to town ,buy the ingredients.

It sure has been a wonderful subject, & I thank you all.

See you next time I want advice on anything XXXXXXXXX

Hi Elsie :) How is the breadmaking going? Can we expect hot bread for afternoon tea anytime soon?

What type are you making and are you still making it? Hope so......We are making Crepes with our new maker

and amazing the ingredients for main meals and savoury snacks and desserts we can have. Fun for now

but probably the novely will wear off lol but who cares fun while it lasts.

Life is fun anyway :)

Hi Phyl, good to hear from you.Yes, I am trying out all the recipes & no complaints so far. The only grizzle I have , & its only a little one, is I bought a Breville Slicer as arthritic hands are not good on a breadknife. Alas, Breville didnt do their homework,& even though they say it is made for breadmakers, the loaf is too wide to fit it,

Handy husband is adapting it for me, in the meantime he has the cutting job.Glad you are enjoying your Crepes , sound interesting, Maybe, Next thing ???Bye now, keep smiling.

So good to hear you and your husband are enjoying making and eating the lovely home made

bread Elsie. That is annoying the Breville Slicer was sold to you by someone misinformed but

sounds like your husband is clever and can adapt it :). I have never used a breadmaker but

wondered could you adapt the recipe a little to make it fit the slicer? Maybe more trouble

than it is worth? as I would suspect the exact ingredients makes the perfect loaf? I can

imagine lovely fruit loaves yum......

All the best

Phyl.

I have used my Panasonic Bread Machine for ten years. Love my bread. Huge loaf, so cut in half when cold, wrap in foil and cling wrap, freeze. Other half.....foil and keep in fridge. Do not buy bread anymore, I like to know what goes into what I eat. I make dark rye/grain mix. Good luck.

Thank you Katie7 for your reply, its good to hear someone else is enjoying their machine too. I too have frozen the bread with good results, have you made bread rolls at all? Tried the recipe in the bread book & they turned out a bit 'cakey." Would appreciate a tried & true recipe if anyone has one. I will keep experimenting.

As to the previous moan about the bread slicer, took my 10 yr old grand daughter to show me what I was doing wrong. A squeeze & a jiggle & lo & behold it worked. " Hold your tongue right ,Nanna " !!!!!
