Did they have to kill Freya the walrus?

Authorities have euthanised a ‘celebrity’ walrus in the face of her overwhelming popularity.

Freya was known for throwing her weight around, quite literally. At 600kg she had been heaving herself onto boats causing all sorts of damage. She was once seen on top of a submarine and was sighted in Scotland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

But along the way she had attracted to something of a following, as fans swarmed to snap her in all her glory.

Well that came to an end last week when Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries said Freya was put down early Sunday based on her “threat to human safety”.

Not surprisingly the decision created a savage backlash, with one social media post describing it as “abhorrent and unforgivable on every level”.

I’m inclined to agree.

That is so sad.  I understand why they made the decision, but surely there could have been another way

They did not have to kill Freya...they just took the easy  way out, as they did recently when they killed a polar bear. Disgusting!!

Agree totally.

Amazingly stupid creatures, humans! The only reason she was getting aggressive was the encroachment into her space. Get a telephoto lens and leave nature be.
