Couple with bad body odour kicked off plane

A couple and their 19-month-old daughter in the United States were removed from an American Airlines flight after the airline told them that the other passengers and crew had complained about their body odour.

Yossi Adler said he and his wife, Jennie, were heading home from a vacation in Miami last week when they were told there was an emergency and they needed to exit the plane. Later Mr Adler was informed it was because of his body odour.

American Airlines said in a statement that the Adlers were asked to deplane after “multiple passengers, along with our crew members, complained about Mr. Adler’s body odour. Our Miami airport team members were concerned about the comfort of our other passengers due to the odour. Our team members took care of the family and provided hotel accommodations and meals and rebooked them on a flight to Detroit Thursday morning.”

Mr Yossi though claims he was kicked off the plane for religious reasons.

“Obviously, there was a reason,” Adler, who is Jewish, said in a phone interview Friday with The Washington Post. “But I think it was an anti-Semitic reason."

Do you think smelly passengers should be removed from flights?

For the comfort of other passengers, I do feel people who have no regard for others  should be removed and in my opinion it has noting to do with what race or religion you are.

Agree KIAH. Anybody who stinks should be kicked off a plane. I pay good money for my seat and I want to eat my meals which I pay for without wearing a peg on my nose. In this case, who knows what the real reason is, could be he didn’t shower before boarding, maybe the baby’s nappy had a full load, maybe the airline overbooked and he was the one to get kicked off. I think there should be a ban on passengers taking their shoes off on board too unless travelling business class. American Airlines employ a lot of Jewish staff as well as Muslims and other religions. Sick of people playing the religion, the colour card, the gender card. Give me a break.

yea kick ém off. Shame we have to pass by them is shops.. Puts one of buying food items.

If they were returning from holiday they must of had showers where they stayed. Some chomp garlic like eating a chocolate, and it takes days for that to clear from the skin.

Yes it is awful if people smell but there are medical conditions that cause that to happen -- but it is is just because of hygiene then there is NO excuse

I remember being held up for almost 24 hours coming back into Aust on a long flight from the UK a few years ago, due to some airline strikes.  I had not been able to shower while waiting, and am pretty sure I would not have smelt too good.  But the reason was not of my choosing.  Having said that, I have sat near some pretty ripe human beings.  Unless there is a good reason (as I think mine was) I would object.

Kinda restores my faith in humanity to see people learning from their mistakes. Well done you two!

Body odour on Melbourne’s trains, especially on hot days, can be quite sickening.  If the train isn’t crowded you can move somewhere else, but if it is crowded and people have their arms up holding onto bars or straps....ugh!  I thought I was going to throw up once.  Guys in supermarkets filling up the shelves sometimes often need to visit the personal care aisle for soap and deodorant.  I went down an empty aisle once where there was a very strong smell of body odour but no-one in sight.  I found the culprit in the next aisle filling shelves.  I had to turn around and skip that aisle because it was so strong.  Like too much perfume, the smell lingered wherever he had been.

On one flight the man next to me was very "high".   Asked to be moved and the staff just laughed and said too bad.   Have not flown that ailine since.

I think the airline dealt with this very well. Mr Adler and family were removed without denegration (they were told there was an emergency), taken to a hotel, provided with meals and rebooked the next day all at the cost of the airline.

Just have a shower and change of clothes already!

Nothing to do with his religion at all. This is simply a veilled claim to extract money from the airline. Oy vey!

I've experienced people with smelly feet, body odour and vile breath, so yes, they did the right thing by removing this pair from the plane. It's really nauseating to be in the same room let alone in a confined aircraft with that smell. no excuses, if you're travelling on long flights, deodreant, a change of socks and clean undies work wonders. Some folk just don't care about personal hyegene, perhaps now they will address it?

Yep, pull out the religious or racist card. Most cabin staff & passengers would have a clue or care less about you religion.

If ya pong it's a personal hygiene, take a shower

Yep right thing to do.

Its horrendous to be stuck with some humans who really pong and mixture of sweat not washing self or clothes and booze plus ciggies smoke - YUCK let me out of here is the cry
