COTA – A.C.T. have taken up the cause on behalf of all pensioners, self-funded as well as age pension and part-pension recipients, by producing a Lifestyle Survey to be distributed to as many over 55’s as possible within the Canberra Region. This survey is being conducted to collate information regarding age pensions and services for seniors in the A.C.T. The results will be presented to the Senate enquiry on Taxation and Pensions to be held in February 2009. Anybody living in the ACT is urged to contact COTA on 6282 3777 to obtain a copy of the survey, or alternatively email [email protected] advising them that you would like to participate It is intended to place an electronic version of the survey on the COTA ACT web site for downloading. The results of this survey will be used to lobby both State and Federal politicians for “A Fair Go For Pensioners”and hopefully attract media attention both locally and nationally. We need to raise awareness of the plight of the many seniors in our society who are being ignored by our government. This statement from the Australian Government Centrelink website is a joke, and is absolutely not true for many pensioners. It states “]If you have reached retirement age, Age Pension ensures you have an adequate income in your retirement”. To quote a certain politician “Let’s keep the bastards honest” and make them honour this statement.
