Being of Scottish decent my Mum always used to hold New Year more important than Xmas--(Hogmanay) if we went out for the New Year we had to " 1st foot" meant if you were a female you had to have a dark headed/eyed man to enter the house b4 you with a gift--or carrying something even if it was a rock and we had to have the house cleaned and all bills paid b4 the the New Year.

English New Year , our first caller was supposed to be a male carrying a lump of coal.

Goodness only knows why, it was supposed to bring good luck so my poor brother had to wait up till midnight and go call at the neighbours house - while one of their males did the same for us.

Makes you wonder what ulterior motive started that idea.

Maybe send the suggestion to Tiger Woods/
