China - the international bully

I see that China is yet again trying to throw its weight around on the world stage. They constantly deplore and ridicule any perceived efforts to influence their attitudes or meddle in their interests, yet they constantly try to do the same to many other countries. The latest bluster is the threat of "retaliation" if Barak Obama proceeds with plans to meet the Dalai Lama. They have made similar threats to other world leaders.
Likewise, they are scathing in their criticism of the U.S. for selling weapons to Taiwan. China seems happy to annexe any country that is powerless to resist but cant accept that the people of Taiwan claimed their independance in 1949. I have no doubt that armed conflict across the Taiwan straight is inevitable unless the Taiwanese are strong enough to defend themselves and can rely on the U.S. to honour its treaty should such a conflict occur. Just what we need...... another trouble spot on the planet.

Deep down Chinaese are influenced by Confucianism a very noble Philosophy.

Many Tibetans did not have a good life. Under the belief of karma they are poor and it is their lot and they are to die poor. They are there to serve the religious masters. It suited the hierarchy of Tibet.

I certainly hope their life is better now and they can still follow their religion.

China has put a media ban on their toxic milk fiasco. Melamine was added to milk to give the appearance of a higher protein content. It killed at least 6 babies and caused 300,000 people to become gravely ill. The tainted products were supposed to be destroyed after the 2008 scandal but somehow found their way back on the market. Journalists have been told they "must only use information formally released by the authorities". Four people have been arrested in the dairy industry. I bought some biscuits the other day that were made in China, they went straight in the bin.

Toot2000 isn't it so hard to avoid food from these O/S countries--China has also had many toys etc that have had Lead etc in them. These days I think we would starve if we threw all the food in the bin from all these places--with China--I am afraid might is right--a very frighting scenario

My 2c worth FWIW

I read an article in a newspaper many many years ago by a political commentator who said ONE of the main reasons China invaded Tibet was to gain more high ground in the Himalaya's.

The reason the commentator gave was that (remembering this was in the 50's and during the "cold war") launching land based ICBM's from higher altitudes gave them a slingshot effect.

There missiles could reach certain destinations quicker than there opponents could reach them.

All probably outdated now, but there's no way back.

...

I am a label reader and foreign countries do not get my vote even if I have to pay more ..........usually this is the case but I do not mind about that ............

Just me, it's an interesting theory, makes sense to me.

Gday toot2000

I'm not sure I believe it.

But I do believe the world is run by political advisors who can convince a pollie of almost anything. You know - that stuff that baffle brains.

It is obviously the general consensus of opinion, on here, to NOT buy chinese goods. That will sure cut back on the cost of living for seniors. Whilst we are at it, let us stop buying petrol, which mostly comes from the Middle East !!! You know, that part of the Earth where the Muslims come from. Oh; & whilst we are at it, lets cancel the coal deal that we have just signed to sell them for $70Billion. Next thing, we should not sell them any more of our iron ore, copper, nickel & other minerals. They deserve to have to pay more in shipping costs from Brazil etc. Besides, we don't need the money, do we ???

Yes high ground has always been the priced place, it gives a big advantage--a well know fact

Innes if I am able to buy Australian I will however impossible these days all our manufacture we used to make so much here--not any more--it has all gone off shore. I will never but fish and such from O/S and I wish that I was able to buy Auzzie made and would do so everythime.

Digger uniforms now to be made in China!!!!! ???

Isn't it mostly foreign companies exploiting cheap labor and as always

making shortcuts to make most profits?

I would like to know the name of the producer...

You name them and they are taking all off shore--ie--Nike /Bonds/ EVERYTHING is made in China--it made be designed here or in country of origin but taken to China for cheap workforce for the greed of the big companies---which will soon bite them in the bum.
