Yes koko you have a point but in many cases it seems to me that the children are cast adrift by parents who break away from their immediate family and who abandon their children entirely .............Grandparents then take up a responsible role as most of us would in similar circumstances



How then do we bring to account parents who have probably dissapeared from the local scene and are nowhwere to be found..............

I agree with koko, however Clay you do have a point. I would have thought though that grandparents who were the sole carers of their grandchildren would be receiving some assistance. I have enough trouble keeping myself on a pension, without having to raise grandchildren. Having heard from a number of carers, their allowance would not be sufficient to feed children let alone raise them. With the current situation regarding the ABC Childcare group, there will probably be a lot more grandparents called in to assist in the raising of grandchildren, and these people should receive the money , from the parents, that was currently being paid to the child care provider. I guess this would affect any pension being received by grandparents - what a mess ! ! !



With the collapse of ABC and the proposed government bail-out, the surplus inherited by the Labor Government is fast disappearing, so any permanent assistance for the needier members of our community is becoming less and less of a reality.

I reckon though, a lot of these people would be drawing Social Services,. These days it's pretty hard to hide.

Centrelink does manage to track down the workers' comp cheats in a lot of cases.

Anyway, one way or another, those grandparents need help.[/size]
