It should not matter where the account is opened as a debit card (provided it is Visa or Mastercard etc) can be used anywhere in the world. E.g., my stepdaughter lives in Thailand and I opened an account here and organised a Visa debit card on the account. I mailed the card (and PIN) to her and now, I simply deposit money into the account here and she draws it out at an ATM in Thailand. The only downside is the bank fee, but if you shop around, some banks ahve lower fees than others.

What sort of charges are we talking about ?

Foreign currency conversion, bank fees etc.

How much is being charged to use the ATM ?

Any info will help then I can chase up all the banks and see who can offer the best deal.

Thanks

I have 2 Grandaughters living away from home ............One is in the UK and the other in Victoria ...........When I send them money I got to their bank using their account number and banking name and make a direct deposit ............The teller firstly checks that my documentation is correct

The money is then transferred instantaniously and the girls are able to get at it within seconds ...............I then text a message on the mobile confirming that I have made the deposit

Modern technology makes it simple ..............

Have just read thru this thread and Clay is right - you must not take a risk and rort the system as it will show up.

Nice idea is the UK Visa or Mastercard though - that would work without the big computer in Canberra catching up but of course you would still be liable for lying to Centrelink.

Best idea is already in thread - for the amount to be under the allowed amount and then no worries:)

Or how about this, must be possible to set up with one of the big supermarkets - for daughter to pay for groceries every month to amount of and get a gift voucher - Cole's do one - and then Mum could spend the voucher as she hadn't got money but goods.

No rorting there - Yet.

But if it is altered in the near future to include vouchers for goods - know they are watching us. spooky music plays da da da da. :)
