Caring face of Centrelink

I posted this link in the old forum, but I thought it would be timely to do a repost.

club25 - ironically - it would be accepted if it was not a "live-in" situation. My cousin was on Newstart, and he did volunteer work as a carer at a nursing home, which Centrelink accepted. He is now on the disability pension, rightly so, being over 60 with diabetes and other conditions, but it took ages for him to get granted the disability pension.

Do you know this as a fact of Centrelink policy, or is it just an assumption on your part ?

I ask, because to date, I am still awaiting an official Government ruling on this matter.

So far I have contacted all Centrelinks management from Canberra downwards to local branch managers as well as every politician involved with Centrelink and no one has given me a definitive response.

Maybe it is because I am on dial up but what letter?

Phyl.

I already suffer from "Oldtimers" but I feel reeeeeeeeeealy goodly when I read your posts - they make sense.

You certainly need something Club.........

club25 - I do know that my cousin did and still does do volunteer work at the local nursing home, just doing various tasks, helping to wash and feed the oldsters, make beds, read to them, give them meds, all sorts of things, two days a week. This was approved by his local Centrelink.Of course he does live in a rural comunity and there is not much else to do in the way of volunteer work - but it was definitely not assumption on my part, this is a relative and I do speak to him on the phone and he tells me what he is doing.

The thing is, he does not "live in" there, he has his own place. I think Centrelink see the "live in" part of your deal as the problem.
