Buy 2 cheaper

I am not happy with the big two--having buy two and get them cheaper--if you are on your own you don't need two! So once again a rip of for us pensioners. Your thoughts please.

I agree.

Just to save a few dollars on one of the few pleasures in my life (a beer) I have to buy 2 slabs with a $70 outlay which chews a big hole in my pension.

Once done, I have to make sure I dont celebrate much as its all too quickly gone LOL

Yes seems very unfair as I was going to buy yogart yesterday--but I didn't because of the 2 for 1 as well as maany other things--like bread--I wouldn't get to use use 2 and I didn't have enough room in the freezer to store the other loaf as ell as many other thing they had for the 2 for cheaper--I have emailed Woolies to tell them how unfair this is. Will seee what reply I get back

As I don't live near any shops I usually have to get enough food to last over a week.

So sometimes I get 2 loaves of bread and 2 or 3 litres milk.

If the bread is cheaper by getting 2 then I will get 2 and freeze one - same with milk.

I usually look for specials to help with making the pension go as far as possible.

i think it is pretty simple. If you only want one go somewhere else and buy ONE only. 2 bottles of scotch at $60 is bad value as people like Dan Murphy will sell one bottle for $27. Same with beer.

I think some people just like to moan and grump for the sole

purpose of being miserable keandha.

SO the special is two for a lower price but nobody is stopping

anyone buying just one. Who are we to tell supermarkets what they

HAVE to do. A special is great if it suits each person but if not do not buy it

go elsewehere or buy at the recommended price.

To be honest I get SO very sick of older people (I must phrase that

better) "some" older people never happy with anything.

We are heaps better off than young families struggling.

I notice here people who do nothing other than complain

and complain some more. Get over it.

No I sure do not agree with us all being a drain on anyone because we

are over 65 as we contribute, and certainly have earned our retirement and

we are enjoying it. I still say we Pensioners are well looked after and

leave it to the young to run the world and some people need to butt out

and realise we have had our turn. All the agro from some oldies here.

I agree keep an interested mind but forget running the world now.

Look at the infocomercials on T.V.They go right through their spiel

THEN "if you buy in the next 15 minutes we will give you another item for free.

thats right 2 for the price of one"

Yaretzi, all I was saying is that why aren't we able to get the lower price for the products in single I am NOT whining at all, it is just a rip off like--Zapot says they advertise on TV 2 for one also why can't they just sell one for half the price?

I love the 2 fors and 6 fors and 10 fors because I know the items I buy are things I use all the time so I stock up, because I know I am saving money. Some grocery items work out at 60% of regular price. There are plenty of 1 fors for those who do not want to save money. Maybe some of them might buy extra smokes if they were 2 fors.

Yaretzi, all I was saying is that why aren't we able to get the lower price for the products in single I am NOT whining at all, it is just a rip off _____________________________

Sorry why is it a "rip off" PlanB. The world does not owe any of us anything because we are "poor pensioners"

Why do you expect them to give you a lower price when something is on special becuse of a bulk buy deal??

I like to accept any special offer if I want and can use it..You use the words "Rip offs a bit" and you are allowed of course but are you ever grateful?

I do not see a rip off if something states clearly a special for bulk buying.

I only ever buy what we use on special in more than one as I have not all

that much storage space but sometimes I have to find the space for a really

good deal. We try to shop less often so do buy a bit more than we need.

Perhaps "poor pensioners" do not warrant special deals, but there is no denying that Coles/Woolworths have been ripping us off for years. The "bulk buys" are just another instance of "forcing the market". They offer a lower price to try to make you buy more product. This discriminates against the "single occupant" household. Its fine if you are in a household where it is convenient to buy in larger amounts, but for single pensioners, it is simply a matter of paying more for the product they need. I can understand discounts for true "bulk buys", but why should anyone have to pay more for say, milk just because they only require one bottle and not two?.

Coles/Woolies use tools like this "bulk buy", frequent flyer schemes, discount fuel etc to drive customer loyalty but just about all of these "tools" are shown to be of little or no value to the shopper.......they are just marketing ploys. Any money you might save on the scheme is eaten up by paying more for your groceries.

We are being treated like sheep and herded into shopping where, when and how the major retailers get the best advantage.

I'm glad you made the point that they "are TRYING to make you" Hugo.

No one is forcing me or herding me into doing shopping anyway except the way I want to. I have Coles, Safeway (Woolworths), Aldi, and an independent grocer within walking distance and I usually use Coles and Safeway because they are cheaper in the majority of lines that I wish to purchase. That is my choice, also how many specials I buy is my choice, not the retailers.

We share these specials, either with a friend or with my daughter who I go shopping with.

But only if we want them.

Same with bulk buys, especially meat, we will buy then share it out. We don't do too bad out of it sometimes.

I am a single household. I always buy in bulk and cook in bulk and freeze. I do not cook every day. People can always buy the home brands, for less than the name brands. If there is a NQR in your area, buy for half price, if you don't mind having an almost expired use by date.

Yes good if you can share with family--but mine live hours away. We only have the big 2 here--I saw on the news last night about the NQR, they sound like you save a lot there if able to freeze.
