Methinks this is too complicated for any TV people as they cant get the age pension right always quoting the 2 weekly as 1 week making most folks think those on the age pension moan for nothing.

I agree it is probably too complicated for our educated reporters, the thing is too that not only do they quote the age pension as a weekly figure, when anyone makes reference to widows benefit they refer to it as a pension.



They forget to make the distinction that since 1997 there is NO widow pension there is only the widow allowance which is the dole under another name and therefore everyone thinks that any comments about the total inadequacy of the widow allowance is also a moan for nothing.



Considering the widow allowance is $200 dollars a fortnight LESS than the basic single aged pension I think it is a moan about a lot.



Roll on the next Federal election and the next WA state election, the cost of living for pensioners and welfare recipients in general is going to be a major issue.

I have forgotten (or lost) the piece of paper that I had written down on how to put in a smiley so imagine there is a cool one" here. The thing is you do not have to worry about going to jail for not voting, all you do is go to the polling booth, get your name ticked off, go into the cubby hole and either do not write anything on your voting paper or write a polite but nasty message.

That makes it an informal vote , no penalties because you turned up and you have indicated that none of them are worth voting for.



My late husband used to do that all the time in state and federal elections.

I agree with you toot, I have often thought of doing that myself but if we all do it then it will be same ol, same ol, I just try to pick the best of the bad lot and hope for the best, if we don't try to change things well then we don't have the right to complain. :).
