I have an Optus bundle plan - combines my landline and broadband internet, $69 a month for the lot, phone calls, line rental and internet. I do have relatives who have wireless but the signal can be weak at times and I like to use YouTube a lot.

As I am in the country, you don't say where your located as satellite Broadband could be another avenue.

Thanks Trev, I am in the city so don't know if sattelite broadband can work here as well.

How expensive is it?

Hello All.

I believe you need to be careful before you (anyone) sign up for "Naked DSL".

I have a feeling that under that system, if you lose power and the PC goes off, your phone may also go off!

This may not be a problem if you also have a mobile phone.

Best wishes.

Peter J.

You can try your area Broadband provider..Try to ask in your area..

What I have interesting is that TPG will provide a 25G for $39.95, 512 download, for a 6 month contract, On/Off peak time. But the Tadaust site requires a 24 month contract, for just the same thing. I'm just waiting until it gets just that much better before I go broadband. Tadaust is supposed to be for the aged and the disabled.

Bev much as everyone denigrates them I am with Dodo and have been for 6 years and probably will stick with them even though my latest contract is up. due to the fact they as cheap or cheaper than the rest and no mucking about with shaping and all that.

All seem to have moans and groans about their ISP if you go onto Whirlpool and read the forums and their plans are all there if you put in your phone number etc.

I pay $39.99 a month for 1.5GB in peak 9am to 1pm and 1.5GB in off peak 1.pm - 9am for 1500/256 which is ADSL and the fastest I can get until they upgrade the exchange to ADSL2. Never had to pay for extra which if I did would be 18c a MB. Bronze plan is its title.

A hell of a lot cheaper than any of the so called subsidised plans for Seniors offered in conjunction with the Aussie Government - as usual they have been ripped off and we are paying for it twice over if we go with them - rofl........

Dodo BB never slows down like many complain of in peak times and easy tech advice even if Malaysian and bit hard to understand they are polite and will go over it again if you don't get their accented English first time around.

Dodo broadband starts at $9.90 a month if you don't want much by way of download allowances.

I keep hearing how bad Dodo is but for me they are okay but then I also have a Telstra phone with no problems either maybe easy to please - I don't think so! I do not accept bad service.

They also give you the free modem etc and walk you through how to set it ups yourself but you ned to sign up for 24 months - which I did way back and expect the phone to ring any day now as my contract ends 30th September! Not going to sign up for 24 months so will have to see what they offer - last time it was 4 months free which I took naturally - see I can be bought and human like anyone today - money talks!

They keep saying we will get cheap broadband in Tassie first via the power lines now they are rolling out Rudd's faster than a speeding bullet but if it is like the gas mains roll out started 5 years back - still waiting!

Go for wireless so you could surf anywhere in your house. It's difficult whenit's broadband. I have to stay at one place.

Giselle, that's clever but its in French.

My daughter has my mobile on some european system

and it works ok is it also for wireles?

We pay our mobile phone with just a bit on it and it was very cheap to buy outright No contract

and we just walk around the corner and pay $29.95 each 1st of the month for our wireless broadband and can have it taken off at any time which suits us just fine.

******What is going on?

This is what I wrote in an earlier post.

What is Mayuri doing?

Phyl.

...

Not too sure Phyl but the link that has been popsted is written in French and could be another scam as was detected by Gerry not too long ago..............You could report it and see what happens .............. :-S

Thank you Clay.

I wondered too Phyl - I thought maybe you were just reiterating your position, until I read who it was from. Maybe a little bug in the system?
