Billy Connolly knighted ahead of 75th birthday

Prince William has knighted Billy Connolly just days before the famed comedian’s 75th birthday.

Connolly was honoured in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace for his services to entertainment and charity.

The Scottish comic said he was “stunned” by the tribute.

“I’m kind of numb. It means a great deal to the people around me, and the fans,” he said.

“I was at the football last week and I was amazed at the reception I got from the other supporters. It seems to mean a great deal to them, which is lovely.”

Asked what he chatted to Prince William about, Connolly was quoted by the BBC as saying: “Just, am I still funny? It was lovely. It was kind of personal.”

In 2013, Connolly announced he was being treated for the initial symptoms of Parkinson's disease, admitting he had started to forget his lines during performances.

Amazing how he was I think one of the first to get away with the "F" word on such a large scale and now the Royalty have knighted him. Proves that royalty have a sense of humour and not as politicaly correct as some would think. I loved Billy's humour and later his travelogue doco's, so sad that he is suffering from early Parkinsons.

Despite the colourful language, somehow it all gets lost in the way he tells his jokes. I read somewhere a while back he was in an hotel in America and a team of dancers and their doctor were staying at the same hotel. The doctor told him he was watching him walk and was concerned about his "gait" and that he thought Billy should check this out with his own doctor. He did, and that's how he found out he had Parkinson's. Enjoy your knighthood Billy.
