Big Bang experiment in Switzerland 10th Sept

Are any of you aware of the the 6.4 billion dollar Particle Accelerator that has been built in Switzerland wih mostly USA, Russia and British money.

It goes live tomorrow 10th Sept and the scientists are attempting to replicate the Big Bang that created our universe. They are saying there is nothing to worry about but then there other scientist who are saying that if they do manage to replicate the Big Bang at the end of the month when they do the big test, then we my just all disappear in a puff of galatic debris.
Its interesting reading and begs the question, Should scientists be allowed to experiment like this with no imput from the larger community.

Yes we should be concerned - how do we know what effect these "experiments" will have on our environment, apart from the possible threat of blowing us all to smithereens. Why haven't we had the same sort of press coverage for this that we had previously when various countries were testing H bombs and the like? How many other "experiments" are being carried out that might affect our well-being ? I'm fairly certain that this sort information is fed to us on a "need to know" basis, and only taken up by the media on a slow news-day.

I will be even more concerned if no-one else responds to this post.

I just have to ..............

Regards and luv to all forum members (yes, even Clay and keef)

The sky isnt falling yet, but you never know!!!

Another good site with info is; http://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/09/08/lhc.collider/index.html

Its interesting to note the Hawkins only fairly recently changed his theory on black holes which now says all should be okay.

Mind you the Scientists involved in the experiment all admit that this is uncharted territory and although they dont know what really will happen dont worry it will all be okay. Rather like Mr Bush junior!

Watch the sky or rather that big hole in the garden that just gets bigger by the hour!!!

I read a big article on it just last night with the pictures of this huge 'establishment' deep underground but did not realise this test is happening on the 10th. Suppose anytime now. We are 9hrs ahead of Europe.

It will be fascinating reading all about it. Do we know that nothing unforseen will happen? Of course we don't. This is UN-known science. But human reason wants to know and we are prepared to take risks. Let's hope it will be all good...

That would be right !!!! I am going to a High Tea tomorrow all dressed up with fancy hat and all and it is possible the world will end. Oh well at least I will look nice when I get to where ever it is I go. Serious though , don't we have enough problems with the world now with out the scientists putting us at more risk. maroussia

Comforting thought is that it is not multinationals who are doing it.

Most scientists are sincere, I can just imagine all the excitement.

I don't know much about it except what I read and I am excited.

Hope there are some good websites to give us all that's happening -

if we are lucky; a lot will be classified I suppose.

Who knows, perhaps even Alien invasion; are we ready for regime change?

Or perhaps some consciousness buzz that will make us all bit better and more loving

and we shall stop killing each other. And those who do not like it, can be wizzed up into the black hole and never come back and we can all live peacefully. I'd like to see that!

Yes I have been watching with interest--

Great idea Mara. I hope there is room for some politicians in that black hole.
