Be ready for two-factor authentication security

Using a strong unique password online is just not enough anymore and Google along with YouTube are planning on auto-enrolling users in two-factor authentication (2FA) by the end of 2021.

Currently, the main way to implement 2FA on your accounts is via authentication codes created via an application on your phone, but Google and YouTube are investigating additional ways to enable 2FA without a phone for when they go live with this update.

Do you use 2FA on all your online accounts? How do you find using it?

Generally 2FA is less hassle than 3FA and provides a level of reassurance. It is generally not a nuisance so long as the authorisation comes through quickly. Would recommend using the phone number for identity confirmation as email can be delayed (it's a store and forward system). If your phone has been cloned or email hacked then 2FA won't do much for you.

Or if you live, as I do, in one of the many areas with terrible mobile reception.

Yes, 2FA is only as good as the communications service the client has access to.

Mine come through an SMS almost instantaneously thank goodness.
