Baker’s Delight pulls controversial ad after backlash

A Baker’s Delight ad depicting two young girls bound and gagged to promote lemon tarts has been withdrawn.

The poster was spotted by someone at the Currambine Central shopping centre in Perth and sent to Collective Shout, a campaign movement against the objectification of women and the sexualisation of girls.

The poster  portrays two frightened girls bound with Christmas tree lights and their mouths stuffed with tarts, alongside the slogan "Silent nights".

Once the issue was brought to Baker’s Delight’s attention the poster was removed and the company apologised.

“Trivialising an important issue like child abuse was never our intention and we apologise to anyone we may have inadvertently upset,” the company said in a statement.

“We have instructed our bakeries to remove the poster as soon as possible.”

What did you think of the Baker’s Delight poster? Was it offensive and trivialising child abuse?

Once again the lefty, gobshite pratts want to decide what is best for all of us. It appears our sense of humour has departed and the " I'm offended" PC brigade have moved in.

God help us.

Generally speaking in my day (perhaps we were ignorant to paedophilia) this would have been funny.  Nowadays with the amount of sexual related issues and problems I think it's inappropriate.

harmless and funny, by the way, Iam a lefty.

I think only a suspect mind could see anything sexually suggestive in the first place. I see a humorous comment on prattling teens, nothing at all sinister. God help those who see more.

Couldn't agree more mudGecko

Spot on MudGecko

I'm with you MudGecko

“This is a misogynistic, porn-inspired abuse scenario to sell baked goods.”  Says Campaign manager Caitlin Roper from Collective Shout.

What?? I am amazed she can see such a message in a stupid and ill thought out ad. Her mind must be in a gutter. The ad is innocuous in my opinion although, in today’s climate not funny at all.

Perhaps Collective Shout should divert their energies to alerting parents on how to protect their children from paedophiles at childcare centres…

Here we go again; the vocal minority has won the day. Seems that any attempt at a bit of humour offends those lacking a sense of humour with an urgent need to be a "Karen" by taking offense on behalf of others.

The minority PC brigade get there way again, humor as gone out the window nowadays.

I think they should cancel Christmas altogether

... after all it is only the business drawing money from the people through advertizing.

What a lot of Codswallop. Here we go again, a few controlling the rest!

I thought it was reasonably funny too, Mudgecko. How a person views that is dictated by their mind, not other peoples.

The concept was okay but it all went wrong in practise due to the picture. Why did they have the girls looking  scared ?

If they had clearly been having fun, there would have been no hint of abuse plus the product would be shown to be an enjoyable treat rather that they wanted instead of forced upon them

Yawn

Personally I think the 2 girls do a terrible job of looking frightened. As for being restrained by Christmas lights - well, please , get real people.

It's ridiculous, it doesn't even sell the lemon tarts well

I am so sick of being told what is best for me to watch, I think I might emigrate to the North (or south) Pole - and move their flags around. Let's see everyone (the powers that be that is) argue over where their flag was put.

Other than that, I will probably end up in the tower awaiting a beheading for political incorrectness - HO HUM

Our Aussie sense of humour is dead and buried.  These people need to get over themselves and get a life, instead of minding everyone else's business.
