Avatar the movie in 3D - responsible for a mans death.

I do seem to remember that 3D gave problems before when it was shown briefly and died. I only went to one movie and got a headache so didn't bother and had already decided not to buy into any 3D TV's even if down in price as they will be inevitably if they stick around long enough and don't die as it did before.

Blockbuster: A scene from Avatar. www.imdb.com

A 42-year-old Taiwanese man with a history of high blood pressure has died of a stroke after watching a 3D screening of James Cameron's blockbuster Avatar.

The man, identified only by his surname Kuo, started to feel unwell during the screening earlier this month in the northern city of Hsinchu and was taken to hospital.

Mr Kuo, who suffered from hypertension, was unconscious when he arrived at the Nan Men General Hospital.

A scan showed that his brain was haemorrhaging, said emergency room doctor Peng Chin-chih.

"It's likely that the over-excitement from watching the movie triggered his symptoms," the doctor said.

Mr Kuo died 11 days later from the brain haemorrhage.

The China Times newspaper says it is the first death linked to watching Cameron's sci-fi epic.

Film blogging sites have reported complaints of headaches, dizziness, nausea and blurry eyesight from viewers of Avatar and other movies rich in 3D imagery.[/quote]

It (3D) never took off back then in the 50's or 60's did it? And there would have to be a reason.

I have seen many 3D movies at the IMAX theatre and LOVE them--nothing like what they were way back in my young days--they are far better now and very realistic--there is even one --can't remember where it is--maybe on the Gold Coast ?--- that the seats also move and if there is a water scene you get a light spray of water as well etc

You really duck when something comes out from the screen at you.

I am with you Jane ;-) We want a 3d big screen tele. and regardless we have recently

bought our new tele. if they are not too expensive will have one. We will go without

something to get our hands on one. We are hoping though someway we can convert

whether with a box and the glasses or something!!! our new tele. will show 3d but if not well we

do not drink or smoke or go on holidays we will have a 3d tele. To us this will

be sheer wonderment. How lucky we are to be born with such amazing technology.

All the best

Phyl.

Yes Phyl I would also love one but I would wait till they have perfected them 1st --never buy the 1st of anything--it might be 3 or more years yet till they are worth having at home--although I would love one and hope that I am still around to get one. Have you seen 3D on the Imax theatres, if not do yourself a favour and go an have a look.

I agree Jane we would not pay the price the first couple of years

either, and as you say the bugs will be ironed out.

No have not been to an Imax but will make it our business to go to

Melbourne this year and see one. We saw two many years ago

and even then we loved them so I can imagine we will be over the

moon with the newer ones.

(sorry Big Val to go off topic here) but we are going to watch

on pay t.v. an hour of People who are hoarders. I have to admit I am a bit

of a bower bird myself but these people collect garbage yukkitty yuk.
