Australian employee stood down after shoplifter confrontation
A Supercheap Auto employee on the Gold Coast has been stood down after footage emerged of the employee fighting over a pram with a woman he claimed was shoplifting.
The video, which has gone viral, shows the male employee attempting to wrestle a pram from a woman. The woman screams that he is harming her baby, until a box falls out of the pram.
The woman was attempting to steal a number of items.
But now Supercheap Auto itself is under fire after news emerged that the employee in question had been stood down pending an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson for the company told news.com.au that this was "standard practice after an event of this nature".
"At all times, we remain focused on the health, safety and wellbeing of customers and team members," he said.
Do you think it was fair to stand this employee down? Or was he simply doing his job to the best of his ability?
An absolute disgrace. This chap was putting his own safety at risk for the company he works for and this is how they repay him. I hope he takes them to court and sues the ass off them. Unfortunately companies today support shoplifters and thieves over their own staff. Both BWS and Liquorland allow grubs to come in to their various stores and blatantly shoplift. They're allowed to do whatever they like by management not the poor bloke behind the counter who has some pride in his job and if the employee steps in, he or she either get sacked or once again suspended. I know this for fact from friends who work at these establishments. It's a bloody disgrace, money over the safety of employees. Jacka.
