Aussies Kill Kids in Afghanistan

The Director of Military Prosecutions says three former members of Australia's Special Operations Task Group will be charged with manslaughter following an incident in which four children died last year in Afghanistan. The charges relate to an incident on February 12, 2009, when six Afghans were killed during an Australian Special Operations Task Group raid in Uruzgan province. Four of the dead were small children. Two more children and two adults were also wounded.

What on earth are we doing in this poor country? They have done absolutely nothing to us.

It is truly shocking and no different to what happened in the Vietnam war and other wars a very sad and dreadful fact of war.

Have you forgotten Bali already? Afghanistan is the place where so many of these terrorist acts come from. It is unfortunate and sad, but only if your troops are intentionally doing these things are they guilty of crime. US troops also have these charges placed on them but after hearings and courts some are released and some found guilty. We must wait for trials before condemning the troops or wasting tears on the enemies side.

bob, I was jut about to post almost he same words. At this stage, they have been charged, and are strenuously denying the charges. The law will take it's course.

Yes koko and I did hear from the news this evening that a male person inside the building was shooting back at our troops

I would think that the rules of engagement in circumstances such as this would be to ............Shoot first ..........I know that I would

God Bless Our Troops ...............

I can understand a charge of murder being brought under circumstances,

but, I agree with Clay wholeheartedly on this. How can you expect our boys

to enter a war zone if they know that they will have capital charges brought

against them for collateral damage? This is no way to treat our soldiers.

On this basis, everybody connected with Hiroshima could have spent the

balance of their lives in military prison.

Sometimes we are quick to make judgements when we know very little of what happened and rely completely on the first news report.

It is better to be tried by a court than by the media or the public who have limited information.

I dont know fwed ....... in these circumstances, I think that our troops will get a much more sympathetic hearing from we "ill-informed" allies than they would from a "local" court. This matter should never have come to court, based on the information I have seen to date.

so it seems to be quite ok if we kill 'them', or as the papers say 'the insurgents'. 'they' are people, just like us, trying to defend their country from an invasion by well-armed, well-nourished and well-resourced foreign troops.

the bombing in bali had nothing to do with afghanistan. how easily you believe the murdoch press's spin!

The bombing in Bali was definitely linked to the Al Queda type of people. Radical Islamic terrorist just love to blow up people. These folks are run from Al Queda or Taliban in Afghanistan. You need to spend some time reading the UN resolutions on Afghanistan. Just Google "un resolutions afghanistan" and see what comes up. They are slow reading but eventually you will learn some things about why the UN asked for a coalition to help untangle the mess in Afghanistan.

Whether the Bali incident did or did not interest you the reasons we are in Afghanistan is to try to end the radical terrorists leadership there. To give the people a chance to become educated and not have to fear the radicals that love to keep people ignorant and superstitious.

They have attacked just about everywhere around the world over the years. It may be directly in Australia one of these days. I hope you are not looking for that to happen.

..

Bob, we have so far narrowly escaped the terrible massacres that have occurred in places like Bali, thanks to the diligence and good work by our police.

There have been a couple of cases in recent years where trials have been held for acts intended toward terrorism.

During the long-running trial, crown prosecutor Richard Maidment SC said the men were all devout Muslims driven by extremist beliefs to plot violent jihad in retaliation for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They spent months working together to acquire chemicals, firearms and ammunition, and extremist literature found in their homes showed they had violent intent, he said.

Justice Whealy said the criminality involved in the enterprise fell "only marginally short of the most serious case".

The men's motivation had been an "intolerant, inflexible religious conviction" and each had contempt for the Australian Government, its leaders and laws, he said.

Just google terrorism trials/Sydney/ Australia, and there is a lot of information on what has been happening.

If someone is shooting at you, you dont have time to sit back and ponder

should I shoot or not, your reaction is to fire. back at where it is coming from.

If it was a deliberate action you must ask why? was it part of an attack,

revenge, or fear. you go through all reactions and at times it's a split second reaction.

It is always terrible when children are the victims.

Look at the air raids in Britain, and the retaliation raids on Germany,

even the Jap raid on Darwin. no one considered who would be killed,

Sometimes I wonder about charges against front line soldiers, if those

who are quick to malign them, one day in their shoes would be enough

to change their minds.

I am sure I don't have to be in their shoes I would be VERY afraid I am sure

This enemy is cunning and well tuned to playing us as our weaknesses. They see our determination not to risk civilian casualties as a major weakness and it’s abused.

The above is an excerpt of a serving soldier sent to a radio host in Sydney. Worth reading it all here.

Also this week's Insight program was riveting to watch. Many different points of view on the war in Afghanistan. It is repeated on Friday at 1.30pm I think..may need to look it up.

Have recorded Insight but haven't watched it as yet.
