assessible assets for Carer Pension

I am retired (age 65) and care for two adult sons with disabilities. Because our superannuation savings are all in my wife’s superannuation account and she is still 6 years below the age pension age, the superannuation is not an assessable asset and we are allowed us to claim the government Carers Pensions. I feel justified in this, as our caring job is very demanding. … one son has schizophrenia and the other uncontrolled epilepsy.

My enquiry is about changes the government might be making so that superannuation savings, below age 65, will become an assessible asset ... does anyone know anything about this or can you suggest where I may get information?

Thank to @bout Seniors for a enjoyable and informative e-newsletter

Here it is

gregtmp - I am carer for my elderly parent, and I recieve the carers payment(pension).Centrelink did not take my assets into account at all,in fact did not enquire about them, only those of the person I am caring for. My parent is a self-funded retiree but not super-wealthy so his assets came in under the threshold and I was able to get the carers payment.

Prior to getting the carers payment I had been receiving Newstart allowance so they did have a record of my assets, but the actual application for the carers payment only concerned the assets of my parent.
