Are you hunting for extra income?

These days, more Australians are trusting so-called ‘sharing economy’ services as opposed to more traditional alternatives. This could be great news for many older Australians looking to supplement their retirement income.

Around 61 per cent of Australians have used a sharing economy service such as Uber, Airbnb and eBay over the past six months.

Uber is the ride-sharing service promoted as an alternative to taxi cabs. Airbnb allows people rent out their home or a room to travellers for an agreed period of time, whilst Carparkit pairs unused car spaces with people who need them. Another sharing service, SpaceOut, lets you rent out storage space if you have some room to spare, and online freelance portals such as Upwork, Airtasker and Freelancer allow for users to outsource everything from designing websites to gardening or assembling flat-pack furniture.

The sharing economy provides Australians with many opportunities to earn some extra cash in order to supplement their existing income. And with more Australians trusting these services, there may be no better time for older Australians in particular to get in on the ground floor and take advantage.

Really surprised there are no answers on this thread. So many people complain about how they can't get along on the pension...and here's an opportunity to share ideas and no one bothers.

When someone makes a claim or requests a payment from the Human Services Dept, there are disclaimers to payment/ notifications. The same with utilites, car rego, rates, etc all of these have disclaimers.

Most of the above would be a notifyable to Human Services before or during the claim.

Just maybe thats why there are no comments, don't take my word for it then read what the notifications are.

No

one reason a lot of older people would not have answered is that they are penalised if they make any extra.    apart from your pension being affedted,     i for one would not want to rent out a room [if i had one,   which i dont ]    to someone i dont know,     i dont drive so driving jobs are no good to me,     dont have a car space to spare,   in fact the one space outside my place,   where hubby parks his car,    if we go out for 5 minuets by the time we get home,   someone has taken it,    and we have to go find the driver to get them to move,[     we pay extra to ministry for that space],   also,   apart from the pension,   if you are in public housing,   they would want 25 % of that money,   they want 25 % of everything you get,   so in the long run a lot would be no better off,
