Anyone Been to Las Vegas?

Hi, we're planning to go to Las Vegas in September and would love any advice about it there. Because we're older we don't want noisy accommodations (partying neighbours) but would ideally like to stay close by the action.

Also looking at Grand Canyon tours, any advice there would be welcome.

Maybe play some slot machines but only with spare pennies.

Any advice about anything there would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!!

It is a few years since I was there.

The casinos are huge - like a city block complete with shops, pools and of course gambling areas, they never close and do not have clocks so you do not know whether it is day or night,

Entertainment is great - while I was there I went to see Cirque du Soleil performing Mystere - amazing show.

There is pleny to see and do so enjoy the holiday.

Haven't been there for many, many years so what little information I am able to provide would be so dated.

Your best bet is to use tripadvisor. I used the site for hotel reviews and also to ask gather information.

Good luck with planning for the trip.

Hi Harmonybree, Just a couple of tips. Always book everything you can

(except car hire) before you leave Australia. It is a lot cheaper. Only stay

at the major Casinos, the subsidised rooms are cheaper than any of the

motels. Also, the meals at all the Casinos are very cheap & an eye opener.

You can take a bus tour to the Grand Canyon for as little as $80 P/P, plus

driver's tip. It is about 540 miles return & the round trip takes about 15 hours,

including a stop off at the Hoover Dam, & you get to spend about 3 hours

at the Canyon. Personally, I would hire a car & take 2 days for the round trip.

You will have little trouble getting a car for 2 days & accommodation near

the Canyon for the cost of the bus trip. If you did this, & you are fit enough,

you would have enough time for the roughly 9 mile trek to the bottom of the

Canyon. An unforgettable experience. Enjoy.

Hi - I was in Las Vegas last October for 3 nights. I stayed at Travelodge in Koval Lane which is just around the corner from MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas Boulevard. Motel type accommodation, clean quiet, dreadful breakfast. Regular city buses run both ways along Koval Lane and take you to both ends of The Strip. Also by walking down Las Vegas Blvd you can reach the Strip in about 10 minutes.

I booked and paid my accommodation on the net by credit card - and had no problems at all.

It is a noisy, glitzy wonderful place - well worth exploring. Enjoy!!!

Hi there

I was in Vegas June 2009 and it was VERY hot (39°C) which made walking the long distances difficult. There is a monorail, but it runs at the back of the casinos, so that when you get off you have to walk through the enormous buildings to get back to the Strip. Always something to see and lots to do, but no longer cheap as they were suffering the American recession. I found my accommodation and vouchers via TripAdvisor as some else suggested. Read their site and tips from the industry and fellow travellers from all over the world.

Went to the Grand Canyon in one day - accomplished by flying in, over the very impressive Hoover Dam and back to Vegas with about 2 hours to walk along the West Rim. Expensive! That too was extremely hot and it was a VERY long day and expensive. My reality was that the Canyon felt much more awesome when you are standing on the edge (say at Mathers or Angel Bright points) and looking out and down, than flying directly overhead. Somehow you feel so miniscule in relation to the boulders and depth of the Canyon.

The Grand Canyon was worth seeing. Not being a gambler, or drinker, and being a solo traveller I wasn't impressed with Las Vegas.

Have a great time whatever you chose to do!
