We woke up today to another Trump in the headlines, this time it’s Ivana, Donald’s first wife, who passed away at her apartment yesterday.

Although she is most famous for being married to “the Donald” as she dubbed him, she had a pretty interesting life of her own.

As well as holding a master’s degree in physical education, she was also a competitive skier at a national level, acted on a Czech children’s television series, escaped Czeckoslovakia, wrote books and ran hotels.

She caught Donald’s eye on a trip to New York in 1976, and they married a year later. 

Apparently, they made good business partners, but Donald’s roving eye put an end to their union. 

Their divorce probably made her more famous than her marriage and dragged through the courts for months. It was gleefully covered by the tabloids and made the front pages for 11 days in a row for one publication.

After the divorce she seems to have enjoyed the life of a rich divorcee, marrying a minor Italian aristocrat and an actor, dabbling in business and jet-setting around the world.

Do I envy her? No, but at some level I can’t help admiring her resilience.
