Another propaganda exercise from WOOLWORTHS

I saw on TV last night that Woolworths is touting some revolutionary policy to put money back in the pockets of its customers. It sounded quite exciting, but the reality was more mundane. They are reducing prices (very slightly) on a range of shelf items.......usually just 20 to 30 cents. They claim this will be a permanent reduction, they are listening to their customers.....the usual promo dribble.
For my money, it is too little and much too late. I really hope ALDI, IGA, Costco and all the other serious competitors send coles and Woolworths broke as they have been ripping off the Australian consumer for a great many years.

And you know why they are doing it don't you, they've lost money for the first time in yonks. I used to shop there for years and years but not anymore, I do the bulk of the shopping in Aldi and go to Coles for a top up for favourite items. This company have been screwing the farmer for years, paying him peanuts and making huge profits, Coles is the same. Now it's time for Aldi and IGA to fight back, I'd love to see them knock off the big two.

"Woolworths shares dropped 2.5 percent at the close of Sydney trading on the 26th of Janury as first-half sales growth more than halved from a year ago".

I agree with both of you and will not shop at either of these stores at all

...

We have Foodland here an IGA subsidiary ( I think )...........the prices are fair and the range of products quite excellent ...............and the store people remember ones name even ..............I like that

Great to see the sods losing out isn't it ???greedy lot that they are .Coles as well...the glad tidings that Coles are to change their pricing to uniform accross the country sounds great, but I bet my boots they will not be uniform at the lowest price' s they have used..... they are such a genuine and generous organisation ,that the prices in the poorer areas are higher than those in the more affluent suburbskeeping up the fine old tradition of the rich getting richer ,and the poor getting poorer ...Don't expect to save enough to inprove your standing of living any time soon

You are right kfc the savings will not be great but maybe many are

blinded by the way Woolworths are marketing the savings and think

it is a "great Deal" Aldi have made a bit of a difference to Coles

and Woolworths here in quite a few products they have matched

price wise so that has to be a good thing.

I know I am like a broken record where Aldi are concerned sorry....

Our life has improved since Aldi came to our town.

I do wish sometimes of course they stocked everything we

use as I get annoyed when I have bought things we

use all the time only to find Aldi are out of it the next week and it

does not come back into stock either :(

Still love Aldi and save quite a bit of money every week

shopping there.

I bought 6 jars moisturising cream 250grams each for just $7

a jar. This is the same price I pay for a bottle of Bio Oil.

I might even go back and get some more if any left lol.

I hope all are having as lovely a day as we are here down in "The Valley"

All the best

Phyl.

During the major upgrade of my local WOOLWORTHS 6 self serve checkouts were installed. Several weeks ago after completing my shopping early morning, I asked the three staff chatting at a 'service' counter if they would open a checkout? One said "Due to a downturn in sales (true, because I have never seen it busy) because of the on-going work to the front carpark (untrue because they have huge parking areas at the side and rear) we are not opening any of the other (8) checkouts" and I was directed to the self serve.

I said I didn't know how to so she offered to put my items through, stacking my filled green bags on the floor and went back to her chatting. Retrieving my bags from the floor I asked "What happens now"? "You pay for it" she snapped. Again I didn't know how to, so with a deep sigh and shrug she finalised the sale. I was furious. Returning home I sent a complaint to head office. Area manager Kym phoned me (despite my requesting a written reply) and said the girl had been wrong and would be offered counselling but stopped short of an apology. He said they MUST open a checkout when asked.

Several weeks later at another WOOLWORTHS store I'm directed to the '15 items or less' counter with a near full trolley. Handing over my green bags they were thrown on the floor because of a lack of counter space and picked up as required. Leaving the store I find I haven't been given my unused green bags. Returning I was told "Oh sorry, they fell down behind the cash register". Errrr from the floor?? Another lie.?

WOOLWORTHS bad experience #3. I asked where the green cucumbers were? "We have the long continental or the Lebanese, never heard of your type"! Relating this to a lady in the fruit & veg shop later she laughed saying "They dont know what apple cucumbers are either".

I now shop FOODLAND (a little dearer) because WOOLWORTHS management are asleep at the wheel, dont care and their level of staff training is deplorable at best. No wonder their sales are down!

Unfortunately we dont have Aldi yet but a nearby Coles is opening as Foodworks next month so I might give them a go as they couldn't be as hopeless as WOOLWORTHS

My wife says "oh yes they can" lol

I don't usually shop at Woolies, but I went in a few days ago and they had Australian banana prawns for $13.75 a kilo.

I got some and they were fantastic.

Much better than the tasteless ones from overseas.

These were genuine Aussie prawns.

Got enough left for a party fwed? Maybe rush off and buy more?

Yes folks I am bringing orange Jelly made with real dinky di orange juice Yummee,I;ll even bring the thick cream and I ce cream to go with it

My wife says “oh yes they can” lol

Care to expend on that Jaxx??

I noticed they said on the TV the other night that these "Green Bags" were also a money making thing also and they had made $25,000000 from them and they were a bigger risk to the enviroment than the pastic ones--something I have been saying since they 1st brought them out. I do not own even one of them and will never.

It also concerns me that the parent companies behind Coles and Woolworths have, for many years, been expanding into other retail areas - fuel, liquor sales, hotels, hardware, auto products etc., etc. The time is coming when whatever we buy will put money into the coffers of one of these two groups.

There is a serious need in this country to break the duopoly, encourage more small and/or independent retailers and open up real competition as is the case in most other developed nations.

Yes we never know these days who is who or what--it should be law that this is stated--you think you are giving the big 2 a miss but then you find out they own the place you have now shopped at.
