Nothing like a cold ice block on a hot day.

Sitting here looking at all these photos of animals trying to keep cool in hot weather, especially here today and the last few days in WA makes me think of all those creatures that have not been able to get to water in our country, it is so sad.

Yes ... so important to consider pets and animals in heatwaves.

This reminds me of my late large poodle doing the same!  LOL

Dopey dog struggles to get a large plank of wood through patio doors into his home

This is the moment a clever boy worked out how to fit a long plank of wood through a narrow doorway. The video, recorded in Penetanguishene, Ontario, and uploaded to YouTube on December 27, shows a determined dog trying and trying to get a long stick into his home. The dog, named Wally, discovers the long plank of wood on the patio, hidden behind the barbecue. Clearly delighted with his discovery, Wally begins exploring the piece of wood - scratching and biting at it. After some wrestling, the brown Weimaraner manages to get it in its mouth, before trotting happily towards the house. Wally soon finds himself in a seemingly insuperable game of Tetris, as he struggles to fit the unwieldy plank through the narrow doorway.

Wally's first attempt is not successful and he howls in frustration   +5             Finally, Wally edges through the small gap, angling the plank exactly right

The brown Weimaraner embodies the proverb, 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try again'

Very clever.

It proves, He's not that dopey.

I wish people would keep their cats indoors or at least let them have an enclosure outside for good days, most of the time the cats sleep anyway.

Cats could be BANNED from going outside under new rules in Australia to help save the MILLIONS of native animals they kill every day - here's what pet owners need to know

Research has found every single feral cat slaughters a staggering 740 local wildlife creatures annually, but even pet cats can each kill 180 on average every year - now council restrictions are rolling out.

Yes, Celia, our wildlife must be protected ... we are losing so many species.

Cats should be banned from going outside.  However, I wonder how many owners would follow this directive.

I wonder how Council’s would monitor this.

I have two cats Axel and both are indoors, sometimes one gets out for an hour but that happens about once eighteen months.

We have three people that I know of near here that have a cat, one works for the council in administration too.  He was telling husband and I that their cat door has a regular visitor!   This can comes into the house and starts a fight in their home with fur flying.  That is the first time I have every heard of that.

But their cat and others come into our garden and love to dig it up, I sometimes feel I should let our two out!       I just wish others would think of the wildlife.

Tigers are in short supply, Cleaners aren't!!!

Tiger is shot and killed at Florida zoo after BITING a cleaner's arm when he entered the animal enclosure and stuck his hand through the fence to pet it

Deputies arrived at Naples Zoo in Florida to find Malayan tiger Eko with the cleaner's arm in its mouth and said they were 'forced to shoot' the animal to free him.

I would have thought that at a zoo there would be access to anaesthetic and a  dart gun used when giving medical assistance to dangerous animals.

it must have taken the deputies some time to get there.

I lived in Malaysia many years ago, when urban settings had not encroached upon the jungles.

Tigers roamed these areas freely and one never heard of people being attacked.  This was attributed, locals said, to lines of the Quran written on their foreheads.
A wildlife ranger told me that a tiger would only attack a human if it were badly injured and had young to feed.

Now, of course, with urbanisation and encroachment into jungles, tigers do attack people.

Hi Axel!

Thank is interesting thank you for sharing it with us.

Husband and I love to watch the programmes if we can find them on Tigers both in India and Malaysia, I have heard that also to be true.

Husband was brought up in Africa and has interesting stories about animals too, like the Elephant and the Leopard which he says you can never trust they love to pounce from under trees.

Do you have have any other pearls of wisdom about the jungle please?

Not sure where these where taken!

I had walked often through the jungle with my parents and while at one time we were stalked by a tiger, we were never accosted by tigers nor any other animals.  On relating the stalking to the ranger, he said that the tiger possibly had young nearby and was checking  that we would not hurt nor interfere with them.

We had planter friends, who were surrounded by animal life ... they never experienced any problems. Except for friends  who had a swimming pool and who lived close to a river. Sometimes crocodiles would leave the river to swim in their pool.

Of course with encroachment due to urbanization, all this changed ... animals became dangerous ... as did humans to animals.
