https://www.rainbowsbridge.com/poem.htm Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Love that poem Celia..
Paul C. Dahm, a grief counsellor in Oregon, US, is said to have written the poem in 1981 and published it in a 1998 book of the same name.
It wouldn't surprise me, back then I was running a couple of dog groups on Yahoo and we had the Rainbow Bridge mentioned often in chats with the loss of some of the pets. A lot of the members were from the US.

A bit over a week ago, Paradise Park, a wildlife sanctuary in Hayle, Cornwall, UK with whom Bored Panda got in touch, announced that it would be temporarily closing its doors to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak. The park stated that it is now important for them to ensure the animals continue to get high-quality care and for that, they must guarantee the health and safety of their zookeeping staff.
In light of this news, four of its staff members—Izzy, Emily, Layla, and Sarah-Jane—have volunteered to move into the park and to self-isolate. During the 12-week self-isolation period, they will continue to be supported by a number of their colleagues coming in during their shifts.

Well done to those staff.
Coronavirus cripples wildlife sanctuaries, zoos as staff, volunteers pay for animals' food
The Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary in Queensland's Wide Bay region is run by volunteers, cares for 300 animals and now has no way to pay for their food, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.
Volunteers at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary are still coming in to feed the animals. But Mr Trigg does not know where the sanctuary would find the thousands of dollars a month needed to keep feeding the animals. He said he and many of the other volunteers spent their $750 Federal Government stimulus payment on food for the animals.
And they're not alone.
Very colourful! Is Perth Zoo doing the same do you know Sophie?
I remember working in an office overlooking Buck House in London in the 60s and in summer there were flamingos but you never hear of them these days. They were very pale not colourful like these.
I believe they get their colour from the algea and crustaceans they eat?

Phillip Island's Fairy Penguins. [or Blue Penguins ]
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-08-10/little-penguins-need-rehabilitation-jumpers-in-case-of-oil-spill/11401356 Little penguins can be susceptible to oil spills and when that happens they head to Phillip Island to get clean again, but not before being fitted out with special rehabilitation jumpers.
Beautiful little creatures.
Really enjoyed our trip to see them on Philip Isand a few years ago.
Beautiful pictures Celia!
Loved taking the children to Shoalwater Marine Park/WA to see the penguins.
:) Very elusive LOL.
Yes RnR I had never seen a baby platypus before I found that photo.
The Friends of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control took to Facebook on Tuesday to announce the 'amazing milestone' reached. Footage shows staff inside the shelter clapping and cheering as they wear masks and pan over the empty kennel. Kennel Two, the kennel that was emptied, houses the shelter's stray housing kennel and adoption overflow kennel
This is so cute! with a video too.
