Astonishing moment gorilla gently tries to coax injured bird to fly after it lands in its zoo enclosure

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8962199/Gorilla-tries-help-stricken-bird-Australian-zoo-enclosure.html#v-5632208076754433392

The footage, from a zoo in New South Wales, was shot on Tuesday. The large gorilla spent more than a minute trying to get the stunned bird to fly off. Visitors to the zoo were amazed by the manner the gorilla treated the bird. The large mammal was incredibly gentle when handling the bird, although, its attempts to get the bird flying again failed.

Lovely story, thanks Celia.

I thought so too RnR,.

Had a bad day after I wrote that I had been at woolies and there was no disabled pays and parked where I don't usually put the food in the car and the trolley away and then dripped over concrete and fell flat.  One guy and another woman came to my rescue.  I think they wanted to call an ambulance, but I sat for awhile and then got back into the car and phone hubby who was wondering where I was!

Saw the Doctor and has me for an xray trouble is he doesn't know I tore all the ligaments in that ankle and food in 1996, I cannot put any weight on it , so it will be interesting to see what the xray shoes up.

Husband is trying to cook dinner and he is not well, oh the fun of getting old!!

So sorry to hear that Celia. All my very best ... hope it heals as soon as possible.

What a sweet Gorilla, just goes to show they can have a big heart too.

Not the sort of trip you should be doing Celia, sorry to hear about that, all the best.

Do you know you could order online and they have pick up where they bring it to your car and put it in the boot for you? Would be a lot stressful and they have a special car park area for pick ups too.

Tiny owl found inside Rockefeller Christmas tree after 3 days with no food or waterThe owl, named Rockefeller, was taken to a wildlife center for rehabilitation

 NOTIFIED: Nov. 18, 2020

A tiny owl is recovering after it was found tucked away in the branches of Rockefeller Center's Christmas tree in New York City.

The Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York, said it received a telephone call on Monday morning from a woman who said her husband discovered the owl while working for the company that transports and secures the iconic tree in Rockefeller Center. The 75-foot Norway spruce was cut down last week in Oneonta, New York, and loaded onto a massive trailer before embarking on a 170-mile road trip to Manhattan, along with its feathered stowaway.

The couple had thought the owl -- now named Rockefeller -- was a baby due to its petite size, but the wildlife center said it is an adult northern saw-whet owl, one of the smallest owl species in North America.

"All baby owls are born in the spring, so the idea that there was a baby owl in November didn’t make sense," the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Rockefeller was taken to the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center, where a team of wildlife rehabilitators is giving the owl fluids and "all the mice he will eat." The wildlife center, which aims to rescue, rehabilitate and release local wildlife back into their natural habitats, said Rockefeller will be released back into the wild once given a clean bill of health by a veterinarian.

"It had been three days since he ate or drank anything," the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center wrote. "So far so good, his eyes are bright and seems relatively in good condition with all he’s been through

Darn horrid that they chop down trees willy nilly without checking -- why the hell they need to chop down trees at all is beyond me surely they can make up on -- we need all the trees we can keep

Just off to have an xray!

Saw this and thought it cute.

Dean Nicholson has gained a legion of followers on Instagram from documenting travels with a kitten (pictured) he found in the mountainous region of Bosnia. He gives accounts of their trips in a new book (inset). Author says their plans to cycle through Russia into China were postpones because of the pandemic.

All the best with your xray. :) Cute story.

Thanks for your good wishes RnR

Still using crutches, and all the bruises have come out!

I think I will be ok if I rest the leg up as the doc said!

Have not used the pc much.

I do hope that your x-ray goes OK and there is no other damage done Celia

Thanks Plan B that was great to see.

Sorry to hear about your fall Celia, so easy to do, how is the ankle now?  Better I hope.

Ankle is fine Toot, I broke that in 1996, but was a close call on Thursday, I have sprained and badly bruised the foot, all the toes and the ball of the foot,  cannot put any pressure on it. Try and walk with not using the ball of the foot!  LOL I twisted my whole body as I caught the toes in the concrete bar by my car! and landed sideways on the concrete, so have bruises over my hips, have pulled muscles in my shoulders and left arm.

I go and lay down for a few hours them hobble back to the pc then go and lay down in front of the tv then go back the bed and so the day goes!

I miss my garden, I was planning to do some more work there after decimating it on Monday with the Army worm or whatever they are called.  They really make a mess of the garden.

Get better soon Celia, just made sticky date pudding for tomorrow, made it with double dates and double sauce, it disappears pretty quickly. lol

That is something I have never tried or made Toot!  Sounds very yummy!

Oh how I love sticky date pudding.

All the best with your home rehab Celia.

Hope all goes well with your X-rays Celia. As we get older we're not as agile as in our younger days. Take it easy and get Norman to lend a hand with the shopping and housework.

A critically endangered hawksbill turtle has returned to the same location it was first recorded laying eggs 30 years ago, on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia.

Wildlife researchers are excited and say the discovery is proof that years of research work is helping to protect significant turtle breeding grounds in northern Australia.

Dainty and cute little creatures I would hate to see them hurt by domestic cats.

Thanks RnR.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been left heartbroken after their 'dear dog' Lupo died last weekend.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a picture of their beloved pup earlier this evening.

Sharing the news with their 12million Instagram followers, they wrote: 'Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. - W & C'.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced their English cocker spaniel Lupo has died. Lupo featured in many pictures with the royals, including one of the first official photos of Prince George.

The English cocker spaniel was bred from a dog which was owned by Michael and Carole Middleton, Kate's parents.

He was given to Will and Kate as a wedding present in 2011, and is believed to have helped them pick a name for Prince George.

The couple are said to have written names on various pieces of paper and scattered them on the floor.

Lupo wandered through them, but stopped when he reached the seven-year-old's name.

Prince William and Kate Middleton said Lupo (pictured with Prince George in 2016) was 'at the heart,' of their family since 2011 Prince William and Kate Middleton said Lupo (pictured with Prince George in 2016) was 'at the heart,' of their family since 2011      Prince William and Kate Middleton said Lupo (pictured with Prince George in 2016) was 'at the heart,' of their family since 2011 Prince William and Kate Middleton said Lupo (pictured with Prince George in 2016) was 'at the heart,' of their family since 2011

Speaking shortly after Prince George's birth in 2013, Prince William said: 'For me Catherine and now little George are my priorities, and Lupo.

'He's coping alright, as a lot of people know who've got dogs and bringing a newborn back, they take a little bit of time to adapt, but he's been alright so far, he's been slobbering around the house, so he's perfectly happy.'

On Prince George's third birthday, the little prince was pictured offering Lupo a lick of his ice cream.

The RSPCA decided to intervene over the image, warning people not to give dairy products to their dogs, as they can be toxic, although the animal welfare charity praised George for trying to help Lupo keep cool in the summer heat.

Kate Middleton is thought to have named Lupo after her paternal great-grandmother, who was born Olive Christiana Lupton.

Her brother, James Middleton, paid tribute to the beloved pet, which came from the same litter as his dogs Ella, Zulu, Inka and Luna.

He wrote: 'Nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of a dog. For those who have never had a dog, it might be hard to understand the loss.

'However for those who have loved a dog know the truth: a dog is not just a pet; it is a member of the family, a best friend, a loyal companion, a teacher and a therapist.

'Many people over the years have reached out to me about the pain of loosing a dog and for most, the loss of a dog is, in almost every way comparable to the loss of a human loved one.

'The pain I felt from loosing my first dog Tilly back in 2017 still hurts and on hearing the news about Lupo brought a wave of emotions flooding back.

'There isn't much of a rule book on how to grieve for a dog, but I've said a prayer, lit a candle and taken Ella (Mum) for a long walk to spend time remembering Lupo.

'Rest in peace Lupo. Tilly & Mini will be waiting for you. You will always be remembered and your legacy will live on forever. Good Boy.'

As recently as March, Kate revealed table tennis was a difficult activity in their household because of Lupo's determination to get involved.

During the couple's visit to the Republic of Ireland, she told young people at a respite centre in County Kildare: 'We try to do this at home but our dog keeps catching the ping pong balls.'

In 2013, firefighters were called out to rescue Lupo after he got his head stuck in a gate at the royals' home in Berkshire.

Firefighters rushed to the £2million Bucklebury Manor, only to find he managed to escape.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said at the time: 'Our crew got to the manor but were told as they arrived at the gates that the dog, which had got its head stuck, had been freed just a few moments earlier so their services were not needed.'

Kate Middleton revealed Lupo's name after she was asked by a seven-year-old boy during a visit to Oxfordshire.

In 2014, she revealed she was missing Lupo after receiving a gift for him during a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand.

She said at the time: ‘Everyone gives presents for George but nobody knows how much I’m missing my own dog.

‘This is the first present I’ve received for my dog and I’m really happy because I do miss him. He’ll be really happy to have this to play with.’

Spaniels, which were bred as gun dogs, are known for being high energy and Kate once wistfully commented on a charity worker's well behaved dogs on a visit to Keswick in the Lake District.

'Maybe we should lend you Lupo,' she joked.

Lupo was also the subject of four children's books, in a series titled The Adventures of a Royal Dog.

Followers shared their condolences with the royals after they shared the news on Sunday evening.

Film producer Ben Cohen wrote: 'I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending love.'

Another follower wrote: 'So sorry for your loss... animals are not pets they become family.'
