Must admit that is one of my favourite photos of nature.

Incredible Horse Recovery

The horse being winched out the well by animal rescue workers

The 12-year-old Irish Sport horse had to be pulled out after being submerged in a water-filled well for hours – and her heartbroken owners have forked out more than £20,000 in vets fees to get her fighting fit again.

Incredible Horse Recovery

The horse fractured his knee in the fall and was submerged in the water filled well for hours

Due to the precarious situation she was found in, a police marksman was even requested to the livery near Hinckley, Leics.

Incredible Horse Recovery

Owner, Amy, was told about the rescue attempt after finishing an exam and was in floods of tears

Despite suffering a fractured back knee from the rescue operation, eight months on the grey mare is back on all four hooves and owner Amy Badge couldn’t be more relieved.

Incredible Horse Recovery

The family spent their life savings on the operation and now Foxxy is back on four hooves

The second year economics student at Bath University only found out about the rescue mission a week later as she had been in the middle of her first year exams.

Amy, 20, said: “I broke down in tears when I found out what had happened to Foxy.

“I’d just finished my last exam when my dad rung.

“I knew something had been wrong as he had called earlier in the week asking me to call once I’d finished.

“It’s unbelievable how far she’s come in eight months.

“She’s still a bit wary around crowds of people but apart from that she’s almost fully recovered.”

Foxy, who Amy has owned for five years and used to keep in county showjumping events with, had been rotated into another paddock when she fell through a thin covering of wood above the well.

Nobody knows how long she was trapped before somebody heard her cries for help and the fire service were called.

Mark Edwards, from Leicestershire Fire & Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team said: “Rescuing Foxy was out of the ordinary.

“We’d never seen anything like this before.

“It’s not a situation that we envisage, so you can’t train for it.

“You’d never think a horse could get into that position in the first place.

“When we got there we could only see her head, neck and front knees – everything else was submerged.”

With help from Warwickshire Fire & Rescue’s Animal Rescue, a harness was secured around the front of her body and she was slowly winched out of the well.

As the rescue party weren’t sure of the success of the operation, they had to request a police marksman for the worst case scenario.

Fortunately that wasn’t necessary, but in the process of being extracted, the back of one of Foxy’s knees fractured and dirty water seeped into the wound.

This led to a joint infection, and she required eight weeks of intensive care and treatment at Rossdales Equine Hospital.

This treatment meant Amy’s dad Mark, 49, incurred £20000 of vet bills to get her back on her feet.

As the insurance only offered £2000 towards the fees due to a previous tendon condition, the family had to use Amy’s life savings and sell Mark’s bike.

Amy said: “It’s a bit like a car being written off.

“The insurance company said that due to her tendon problems she was only worth £2000.

“Obviously to us she’s invaluable so we’ve done whatever was necessary to get her healthy again.

“I know I’ll never be able to jump her again but seeing her back on her feet was worth it.”

Poor thing, sounds like she stepped in backwards, I wish people would make sure their wells are covered up.

As for the objection of showing animals that have had accidents or have not been cared for

I object to being brought to task that I don't care about the welfare of my posting these

Photos.

We don't live in a world of the fairies and to show a few of these photos is a responsible

Action;  trying to avoid the real world is disturbing to my way of thinking, it also puts the

People that study Veterinary Sciences in an insidious position.

The stories that were posted had a happy ending due to the loving and knowledgeable

Care of veterinary science.

Perhaps visits to the universities that study veterinary science should be more public

To see how they cope in their studies.

Photographs of two widowed penguins comforting each other have warmed social media users hearts amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Photographer Tobias Baumgaertner captured the images while spending three nights camping out at a fairy penguin colony in Melbourne, Australia.

In the sweet snaps, an elderly female penguin and a younger male stand side by side, gazing at the skyline. Both have lost their partners.

What a lovely story. Charming picture too. Thanks celia.

Beautiful story Celia..

Read the photographer's caption here:

"During times like this, the truly lucky ones are those that can be with the person/people they love most. I captured this moment about a year ago. These two fairy penguins poised upon a rock, overlooking the Melbourne skyline and were standing there for hours, flipper in flipper, watching the sparkling lights of the skyline and ocean.

A volunteer approached me and told me that the white one was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and so did the younger male to the left. Since then they meet regularly comforting each other and standing together for hours watching the dancing lights of the nearby city. I spent 3 full nights with this penguin colony until I was able to get this picture. Between not being able or allowed to use any lights and the tiny penguins continuously moving, rubbing their flippers on each other's backs and cleaning one another, it was really hard to get a shot but I got lucky during one beautiful moment. I hope you enjoy this moment as much as I did. #lovewillalwayswin." (sic)

How sad that both of the penguins lost their partners

...is there anymore information to support that ???

Suze are you reading from downloading emails or on site?

I only read on the site.

But I posted the article above it with an addie.

Sorry Celia

I do not know what an "addie" is ?

or what "downloading emails" are ???

Must go and clean the cookies off my computer now

Each browser e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Safari, store cookies differently. You can go into your browser settings to change the way they are stored, including (in most) ... clear cookies on Quit or clear history (with clear cookies as one of the options).

I clear some of mine about once a week but have never had any cookies cause a problem since I first started on the internet way back in 1995!! That's over 25 years ago ... how time flies LOL.

To the best of my knowledge, cookies themselves aren't harmful. They can't infect computers with viruses or other malware but I understand, some cyber attacks can hijack cookies and cause problems. What problems I don’t know…maybe Suze can help out?

Talking about cookies..the edible sort…I bought a box of ready made muesli (I usually make my own) some time ago. Tried it twice and didn’t like it, so what to do! I decided to make cookies…they’re just out of the oven, smelling delicious and I’m waiting for them to cool before digging in!

An elderly female penguin and a younger male making out for hours? Clearly the female penguin is a cougar, lusting after a young penguin. The zoo should never allow this sort of immoral behaviour, those two are setting a bad example for the young penguins.

Ha Haaah!!

Well put Lucca

Carlton II was fitted with a high-tech satellite tag in May 2018 by scientists from the BTO so they could track his every move  The cuckoo was helped by strong southerly winds as sped 4,677 miles from the Ivory Coast in West Africa to marshes in the East of England

That's a fast long haul.

By far the longest migration known in the animal kingdom, is done by the medium-sized Arctic Tern which travels 90,000 km (55,923 mi) from pole to pole every year — from Greenland in the North to the Weddell Sea in the South. Remarkably, Arctic Terns can live up to 30 years, which means if one adds up the distance they traverse in a lifetime, their total journey is equivalent to going to the moon and back more than three times.

My arms would ache doing that flight!!

RnR wouldn't it be easier to fly from west to east or in the Northern Hemisphere East to West, I am thinking of all the cross winds this bird encountered flying from north to south and south to north, that is quite an accomplishment.

RSPCA has dealt with more than 21,000 animal cruelty cases since coronavirus lockdown began as charity appeals for more help

The RSPCA is being called out every two minutes to help abandoned animals during the coronavirus lockdown. Among the abandoned pets were three rabbits in Essex.

I hope this is not the case in Australia's Rescue Homes.

They don't look like rabbits to me Celia, lol

Heaps of people have bought pets since lockdowns started, to comfort them and their children, I worry what will happen when they all go back to work and school and these animals are not used to being alone, and particularly the puppies and kittens once grown are abandoned.

A lucky five-month-old golden retriever puppy called Dustin is now making a full recovery at home after swallowing a fork.

The dog's owners Elise and Michael Pitt, of Glengowrie in Adelaide's south-west, said they had just walked away from the dinner table for a moment on Sunday when Dustin jumped up onto the table.

"The dog got his paws up and pulled the plate down and scoffed the lot," Ms Pitt said. "We then had to work out whether he'd eaten the fork or not, so the whole plate was on the floor and because we were yelling at him he was obviously trying so hard to finish it and scoffed the fork and ravioli and all." Ms Pitt said panic set in when she and her husband could not find the fork.

Stupid people, you never leave food around with Golden Retrievers or Labradors, they have a constant urge to eat what is in site. I personally think you need to not eat around pets at all so they learn not to take human food.

The owners and the dog need training.
